Being a sucker for cheese, Swiss cuisine is the ideal choice. Tucked away within the artsy Spitalfields market, androuet is a perfect spot for a cozy meal. We called for the special raclette with a mix of Swiss and French cheese. It was delicious! Followed by the classic fondue, which was good, however the Gruyere wasn’t too strong. The decor is of a cheese shop converted into a restaurant. A favourite for some good raclette!
I love Spitalfields. I think I always have since moving to London 4 years ago, walking around for the first time. The plethora of Artisan stalls selling authentic vintage and antiques, surrounded by restaurants galore, such as Cafe Au Vin, Galvin La Chapelle, Carluccios, Wright Brothers to name a few, make this place unique and suitable for most tourist and Londoners visiting. Before venturing to our latest discovery, I had heard a few people raving about a French cheese shop called Androuet, located in the heart of the market. As a cheese lover, I was even happier to learn that Chef Alessandro Grano from Southern Italy, (oh my Italian Pride!), creates deliciousness on a plate with cheese as the focus.Me and my partner in crime Sammijo went to Androuet on a quiet Wednesday night, very much looking forward to this cheese-themed dinner. We sat in a cosy little corner on the outside terrace which in fact is inside the Old Spitalfields market. All of the tables are right next to each other and it was a bit of struggle to get into the corner one we were allocated. That said, it was comfortable once we had sat and although a little bit of a cold night, we felt warm in this space. The menu was brought by a French waiter and I was torn between several of the options so tempting, that it gave me a hunger for fromage. From fresh cheese pastas to Fondue, from Raclette and sharing boards to cheese baguette, yummy, we wanted it all! However, we had to choose. The tortellini with spinach, ricotta and extra speck for Sammijo was a thing of beauty. Perfectly executed, (oui, excuse my Italian pride). My mixed French & Swiss raclette served with potatoes, charcuterie and cornichons was fabulous, a wee bit insatiable.Cheese is cheese – granted but these people clearly now what they are doing with it. You can visit the shop to take full advantage of their cheese skills established in 1909, Paris, apparently. Also, they supply some of the best kitchens around London, just saying.Cant wait to go back. cookandpour.co.uk
The main restaurant was closed so we had the bar menu which is simple and exactly what we wanted. You have a choice of: two fondues, a raclette, a cheese board and a range of charcuterie. We ordered the standard fondue (the one without blue cheese) which comes with bread, ready for dipping, and the saussicon and speck from the charcuterie selection. Presented in a cast iron fondue pot and kept bubbling away by the gas beneath it, it was a no holds barred sort of situation. They gave us cutlery but I’m not entirely sure why; I just needed the fondue fork and knew that when there wasn’t meat or bread on it, there was a problem. charliedistracted.com
Cheese overload but great !!!. The selection of nibbles on arrival are great and the duck egg cocotte is sublime. The whole meal was a lot of fun and very tasty with a good selection of decent wine by the glass. Staff very friendly and attentive. Would def return
Simply Delicious!!. Androuet, for me, is the best place to eat in Spitalfield Market. Since this placed opened about a year ago it has simply got better and better. The food is outstanding, the menu of specials is carefully selected and executed with passion and as for their chocolate brownie with hazelnuts…. I am always torn between it and the wonderful selection of seasonal cheeses. The staff are extremely welcoming, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the food and wine they serve you. I recently had the veal on special and it was melt in the mouth and came with most wonderful flavoured sauce.Whether you want a tasty, fresh sandwich, a plate of wonderful cheese or a full meal, it is all available at Androuet. The stanard of produce used is clearly very high and this place just keeps on getting better and better. I cannot recommend this place enough. PS – the chocolate fondue is to die for!!
