A hole in the wall having stairs leading to a basement bar. I first thought that it is a cool spot but could probably only stay few minutes. Turns out that it is lots of fun and you would stay quite long sipping on nice cocktails and dancing to swing tunes. Super cool place.
Always have amazing drinks and great music to go with. Love coming here for a good time! It does get very busy on the weekends, but that’s how good this place is. Bartenders are awesome
I almost hesitate to review Discount Suit Company, since one of the things I really like about it is that it’s still secret enough that you have a reasonable chance of grabbing a seat (unlike similarly brilliant but high-demand cocktail bars). But this may be my favourite cocktail bar in London. The location is great–near all the trendy spots in the East End, but off the beaten track enough that you’re not wading through crowds of tourists to make it there. The menu is fantastic–custom cocktails which get more exciting every time I visit (the conference call, off their latest menu, may be my soul mate in cocktail form)–and reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and skilled. But above all, the ambiance–intimate, stylish but not overthought (pictures are totally representative), and the entrance and name is just dodgy enough to make it fun to visit. This is where I bring all new people to London.
Great find this little cocktail bar which is hidden in a random house’s basement. Once you’re down the dark stairs, you enter into a nice basement room, low ceiling, warm lightning, good crowd, good music. Thought the cocktails were great and they also serve some bar nibbles. It was relatively crowded so couldn’t get a seat but we didn’t mind. Definitely go check it out.
A really simple little cocktail bar that is so utterly invisible, you’ll find yourself standing warily outside the clothes shop above it and considering whether or not the whole thing is a wind up.Inside the staff are relaxed and warm. I ended up having a lengthy conversation with the bartender from Huddersfield on the history of the place (the bar – not Huddersfield). The cocktails are delicious and a bit cheeky. I visited on Thursday and the tables were all booked from 6pm – so plan ahead if its not a quick stop off. urbanmash.co.uk
When I have evening plans you can usually guarantee that Iwill need to stay late to do something at work. Typical. However, for once (mybirthday dinner) I actually managed to get out on time. So, as we had a bit oftime before dinner, we headed for pre-dinner drinks. My boyfriend had initially thought that we could head up tothe Hawksmoor Spitalfields bar, but after persuading him otherwise, I draggedhim through the quiet streets of the, by that point, empty Petticoat LaneMarket in search of an unmarked door. I’m a subscriber and reader of The Nudgeand a while ago they featured a little hidden subterranean cocktail bar,Discount Suit Company. I love finding new hidden gems in London so it seemedlike the perfect place for birthday drinks.Surrounded by wholesalers and shutters covered in graffiti, you wouldn’t look twice at Discount Suit Company, but if you know it’s therethen you can descend down a staircase, sweep aside a curtain and enter theinvitingly cosy warmth of the bar.We had got there early and so it was quiet (it got busierlater), we found ourselves two seats that hadn’t been reserved (reservationsare taken from Sundays to Wednesdays) and settled down to peruse the drinksmenu. In addition to the drinks on the menu, the staff advised us that theywere happy to make any other classics, so if you have a particular favourite, you can go off menu. We were happy to try out the cocktails from the menu (allcocktails only 7.50). For my first drink I decided to try the Pina Fumadawhich contained mezcal, velvet falernum, acacia honey, lemon and pineapple. Myboyfriend chose The Bebbo Cocktail which was gin, lemon, acacia honey and bloodorange. We both had a sip of each and agreed that both were good.Funnily enough I am not a pineapple fan, but once you juice it and mix it withalcohol, I love it. In addition to the cocktails you can nibble on olives orget a weekly cheese board selected by Neal’s Yard Dairy. As we were going onfor dinner we just got a portion of olives. For our second drink, I went for the Goldfish Bathtub, whichis Earl Grey infused rum, apricot brandy and lemon. On the barman’s recommendation my boyfriendchose the Zizi Jeanmaire which was apparently created by one of their barmen. Itwas calvados, saint germain and amontillado sherry. It came in a tiny glass andwith a potency warning from the barman. It was all very relaxed, our orders were taken from us atour table and we only had to pay at the end of the evening so we didn’t findourselves constantly getting up and down to go to the bar. Perfect for a nicerelaxed evening. The staff were lovely and I loved that they were keen torecommend drinks or make something else up for us.All of the cocktails we didn’t get around to trying soundedreally good, so we have resolved to go back to Discount Suit Company at somepoint to while away an evening (or lazy Saturday afternoon) trying out therest. If you’re looking for a cosy place and to surprise your friends with yourinsider knowledge, I can’t think of anywhere better. Plus it’s only a stone’sthrow from Liverpool Street station, so it’s handy for the tube. notquiteenough.co.uk
This place is very cozy and comfortable. It is surely the spot where to go with a small group of friends and enjoy your time for a few drinks. It looks almost secretive, because of its low lights. I had a goldfish bathtub with rum, apricot brandy, and lemon, which tasted exquisite and very unique. Their cocktails are quite pricey, but the flavours are distinctive. I will certainly spend another evening at the Discount Suit Company!
