So let me introduce to you one of Brick Lane’s relatively new additions Enoteca Pomaio and it is one not to miss. An organic wine bar and restaurant tied to a Tuscan vineyard. With its connection to Tuscanys organic and sustainable Podere di Pomaio vineyard; Enoteca Pomaio showcases Tuscan wine and Italian small plates to stamp their mark on this section of East London with a flourish. A taste sensation; with reinvented and innovative small plates. Every dish has been added to the menu with the utmost care and attention using the freshest of Italian ingredients (90% of their produce is sourced in Tuscany). The food, wine and warm sunny welcome is enough to encourage you back as soon as you leave. Trendy and minimalist with stripped walls the upstairs area showcases the wines and produce – prosciutto – you are about to taste. With your interest peaked you can’t help but hurry to read the menu. With a more intimate yet bigger downstairs space Enoteca Pomaio deftly strikes the balance as a perfect meeting spot for groups of all sizes and nature whether friends or professional. A contemporary soundtracks helps you on your way as you sample the finest off-piste tapas Tuscan offerings. The flavours are delicious and curiously enticing; starting with an interesting bright green broccoli pure and guanciale bruschetta. Next we had the truffle fried eggs. Cooked to perfection with runny yolks liberally covered with truffle and accompanied by juicy melt in the mouth asparagus spears. The special of the day was beef ragu which was light, flavoursome and fresh. All in all, a very moreish plate of pasta. Next came a mackerel nicoise, a different spin on a classic dish. Generously portioned and well presented. The small details on each plate were clearly executed to a high standard.Fast forward to dessert, always a necessary end for me; a cheesecake which was a swirl of textures; cantucci biscuits, strawberries and cream. A dark cocoa mousse and panforte biscuits rounded off the meal. Be warned the mousse is very rich but worth squeezing in.Overall, this is the kind of heavenly nosh that you normally only manage to taste after taking that flight! My summer tip top is to avoid the endless security and the airport queues by making your way to Enoteca Pomaio for a vibrant, delicious and buzzing slice of Tuscany right here on our doorstep. cookandpour.co.uk
We visited here for the office party as an excuse to try out the new bar on Brick Lane. Contemporary look and feel with an impressive back shelf of wines which we were told were 90% from Tuscany.Luca, the main guy presented a bottle of Ros from their own vineyard which we really enjoyed, we have had nothing like this before. We picked a large selection of the dishes from the menu with the gnocchi being a particular favourite on the table. We will be back again soon and best of luck to you all.
