Great value lunch for a fiver. I had the tofu steamed sandwich bun. Delicious. I wasn’t too hungry so it was enough, but otherwise would have gone for a more filling baguette option. Go early to avoid the lunchtime queues and the popular options selling out!
One of the best Chicken Pad Thai dishes I have ever had!Located on Commercial Street there are a few tables inside or you can order your Thai food to go. They do two different portion sizes; small and large though the small is deceptively filling. Their range of curry’s and noodle dishes are all made fresh on the premises each day. I’m a big fan of the Chicken Pad Thai but I have also tried the chicken satay which was also very tasty. Everything is also very reasonably priced with it being about 4 for a small portion. They also have a range of drinks including fresh lychee juice. The staff aren’t always the friendliest but the food makes up for it.
We thought to be clever by arriving after the rush of lunchtime office workers. No problem getting a table at 13:45.However, when I ordered the beef rendang in a baguette i was told they were sold out. No problem, my second choice was the lamb rendang but that was sold out too. Okay, then the roast duck baguette. Nope gone. The roast pork baguette was sold out as well. The only filing available for the baguette I fancied was the chicken sate. It was alright but nothing special. I did like the fact that the baguettes were dressed like Vietnamese Banh Mi, with lightly pickled vegetables and fresh coriander. My companion’s large curry included both the green chicken curry and the spicy Malaysian chicken curry. I preferred the green curry, which was sharp, sweet and rich. That said, lunch with a shared soft drink only came to 10.35 for two people. I do wonder if I would have been happier going to Mama Thai around the corner on Toynbee Street, given the sold out state of the lunch counter. Next time we will have to arrive earlier.
