This a Turkish BYOB restaurant down a small road called Artillery Passage (there is a chance you may get lost!). Small restaurant (although has an upstairs and a downstairs) so probably best to book. We had shared hot and cold meze starters – quite small platters so we had 4 between 5 of us. The mains are decent portions and come with rice and salad – most at 9-10 each. With a corkage fee of 3 per bottle, starters and mains, the bill came to a fairly modest 80. They are also offering a 10% discount on their website at the minute. I still prefer Adiva on Commercial Road if you are going for a Turkish BYOB though!

Its pretty hard to find good Turkish food in the city, but Olives and Figs is worth trying. Its BYOB, and relatively small so be sure to book a table or arrive early. I have been here numerous times and have to recommend the lamb shish. Extremely succulent with hints of spice, is enough to satisfy me for an entire day. They even do warm bread with dips to start; a rarity for most places in the vicinity.Prices and portions are reasonable with mains costing around 10 a head. I’ll be back, as they have never failed to impress!

My friend was in town and because it was that awkward period just before pay day, she had three criteria: CHEAP food in abundance, BYOB and based in the city. I was not in the mood for curry, so Olive and Figs seemed ideal.Said friend’s flight was delayed and the restaurant was happy to accommodate when I called at 6.30, to ask for our 7pm booking for 8 people to be pushed back to 8pm. The corkage costs 3 as the restaurant now has actually has a license (and to be honest the bottles of wine are only about 13 each so if you can’t be bothered to go to Sainsbury’s around the corner – don’t bother.) You then have to spend another 8, which is pretty fair – but actually a bit of a task if you’re opting for more of a mezze sharing approach. Watch out for the menu as well – their translations are a tad out of sync. With my pre-marathon appetite, we managed of course. Of particular recommendation would be the chicken shish, tabbouleh, and fried halloumi. The hummus is pretty so-so and you’re provided with french bread to dip with so be warned! We thought this was just complementary at the beginning and devour it all before the dips arrived, but they were isn-happy to provide us with more. The atmosphere on a Thursday evening was pretty non-existent, but they tried their best to add some background noise with what I assume to be authentic Turkish music. Overall if your criteria for a dinner out with friends are the same as Phoebe’s above, I would totally recommend this place. If your expectations are slightly higher (i.e if you’ve slogged away on Liverpool Street for the day and feel like you want to treat yourself) Olive and Fig might not be the Turkish delight you are looking for.

Just when I thought there could not possibly be any more room in London for yet another generic Turkish, here I go. There really wasn’t much I liked about Olives and Figs; the service was poor, the place cramped, the food unsubstantial – even the price made no effort to redeem coming to a princely 20 quid per head for starters and mains.Yes, I had a fun night but that was more due to the company than the place, although I do suppose there aren’t many restaurants who would be willing to host a rowdy bunch of fifteen so I guess that’s one silver lining. Otherwise move on – there’s nothing to see here.

Fabulous good, great value for money and friendly staff. Ok, so, the place is very busy at usual peak periods and although the restaurant is set over two levels, ground and lower ground, there is always a healthy number of people eating. NOTE – this restaurant does NOT have a liquor licence so it’s bring your own alcohol (which is openly accepted) or you have the soft drinks and mineral water they have for sale. Warm Bread and dip is a complimentary offering as you browse the menu and is refilled for no extra charge too. My choice is the lamb Adana or chicken shish. Choice of rice or chips, or half and half for the undecided amongst you, comes with salad and wrap too. Overall, you shouldn’t leave here dealing hungry! Go for the large if you have a big appetite but be warned, if you take the large for lunch, you will be sleeping through those afternoon meetings! Also NOTE – like a lot of establishments in this area, this restaurant isn’t open at the weekend. Well worth a visit and a weekly return !

Went here with a couple mates looking for a speedy but enjoyable meal and was very surprised that the small restaurant in a seemingly clandestine but jam-packed street was in fact full (on a Monday night!). So we were happy to find that there was room in a downstairs area. It was actually empty when we arrived but soon filled up.The place was chosen from a mate’s recommendation who says he had tried almost everywhere around the area in his lunch-break, so it had to be pretty good. He wasn’t wrong. We all ordered the small mixed grill which was well-cooked and very filling. Priced at 9.50 the food isn’t exactly cheap but for the amount you get it is very satisfying (I can’t imagine how I wouldv’e felt after the large mixed grill). You also get a basket of nicely warmed bread and some dips which is a great addition (the difference between nice warmed bread and cold stale stuff is huge and I don’t see why all restaurants don’t offer this)! The one negative point would be that without these sauces the food may have been a bit dry. However we just asked for more and used them for our mains as well, crisis averted! The service was unobtrusive but very friendly and with no compulsory service charge you will not feel at all aggrieved to add the 12.5% yourselves. An additional point is the restaurant doesn’t serve alcoholic drinks (due to licensing) but this is no problem as BYOB just helps the bank balance and there is a Sainsbury’s Local very near by!Overall a good meal at an affordable price with friendly service and due to BYOB you can also have a few drinks with your meal!
