Went to Spitalfields and thought to have a small snack before lunch, so we ordered an onion and cheese pie. I wasn’t sure about the flavor but went along with it. Had one bite and it was sooooo good that I wanted the whole pie to myself. It definitely was a good snack but I did feel kinda full with just pie. PS: had the halal chicken pie (the signage for that pie said halal) as well but the onion and cheese pie is a definite winner for me.

Was on vacation in London from Canada. Heard this place was good and read some positive reviews online so I decided to go and check it out while I was in London. The pie tasted great and the sides I got were good too. Price for the pies and sides were decent.

I was very undecisive about what to eat today for lunch so after walking around pretty much the whole spitalfields market, I came across this place. This had been sitting in my bookmarks for a while so I decided to give it a go.There was quite a crowd of customers ‘pie-ing’ from their square pie boxes at tables outside the restaurant. The inside was also just as busy. So all good signs so far!!However I had failed to appreciate that the menu choices are quite limited and I only liked the idea of a Lamb and Rosemary Pie but unfortunately these weren’t available. At the time I visited, in addition to the Lamb and Rosemary there were not many other choices left so I asked for the last Chicken and Mushroom pie. I have to say that I am generally not a fan of the Chicken and Mushroom combination so didnt enjoy the food as much as I would have liked. I also think that given the Pies start from 4.99, Square Pie should really think about making their portions bigger as my pie didnt come close to filling me up. Having said that, when ordering the pies you are offered additonal options likes sides and snacks to add to your meal. so I would definitely think about adding sides if I were to visit again because I just dont think the pie on its own can be counted as a proper lunch. On a positive note, the staff are very friendly and cheerful but due to the small portion size and due to the limited food items, I was quite disappointed with this place.

It may not have the sleek minimalist interiors or eclectic fanciness of its neighbours, but come lunchtime and youll find a veritable crowd trying to get piece of the action here -mainly in the form of take away lunch boxes. Whats their secret? British comfort food: pie and mash. Add to it a revamped menu and extended opening hours, and you know that the people at Square Pie mean business. And if youre not in a particularly pie-y mood, theres always their sausage selection, macaroni and cheese and a wide range of jacket potato options to choose from. Theyve recently introduced their two bite canaps, cold summer salads and additional hot sides to go along with their top ten pie selection and I can certainly vouch for the crunchiness of the pastry and the gooeyness of the pies. Help yourself to a generous helping of their onion gravy or parsley liquor and pick your hot sides of mashes, peas and potato wedges and youve just got yourself a hearty lunch.Personally, I love the introduction of the canaps simply because it allows you the option of having three differently filled pies (albeit smaller of course) for a price lower than that of a single pie. And if youre watching your waistline, they have what they call naked pies which is 50% less fat.For photos and more, visit http://www.oldspitalfieldsmarket.com/its-a-pie-eating-thing couchcibo.wordpress.com
