Absolutely love it. And it is a shame I only find this lost pearl on my last day in London. The service is impeccable. The staff is really friendly and the prices are more than affordable. The place is clean which can be a real plus in an area like this. Absolutely love it. The only reason why I don’t give 5 is because of the tables and the way they are arranged. They don’t allow privacy as they are meant to be shared. Absolutely recommend.

This is a really nice little lunch stop. I call in most weeks for a flat white from the jolly staff. The word on the street is that if I finish that off with a bagel with cinnamon bagel I will be very happy indeed – but that has yet to happen. For lunch however – the sandwich range is absolutely delicious – AND CHEAP! I had a chicken, bacon, brie and cranberry on pumpkin seed bread (made fresh) and thoroughly enjoyed her. So pleased with my lunch – I decided to take a trip down memory lane and ate a slice of my first arctic roll since primary school – so 124 years…Definitely go and have a little look urbanmash.co.uk

The Straits Times Kopitiam was a delight to visit. The cafe is conveniently located opposite the Whitechapel Gallery and you are immediately tempted in by their colourful plates of sandwiches and cakes.Normally, I tend to stay away from red velvet cake, as it has a habit of tasting too dense and heavy. The Straits Times Kopitiam’s red velvet drew me in through its powerful red colouring, a real candy red, it looked too good not to try. Very glad that I did! It was light, fluffy and the frosting on top didn’t overtake but only furthered the cake’s own taste. Very enjoyable. In my regular latte order l often have up to two sugars, I added zero with my latte here, which emphaisises how nice a beverage it was. Also it came in a really cute little mug, just a nice little touch. We stayed in there for a while, and the staff gave us no hint that we were over staying our welcome, in fact they were really friendly and happy. Thank you Mrija Gupta and Rin for introducing me to this little gem!

This place is seriously deserving of greater love and attention. Incredible sandwiches with a set of combinations I’ve hardly ever come across (it reminds of this corner cafe in busy, busy Singapore). I recommend their mango/chicken duo – had this two weeks ago and still craving it. Their chilli hot chocolate, and frankly, any other smoothiemilkshakejuicething packs powerful punches. Probably gonna go back tomorrow. Seriously, so good. The team who work there are patient, courteous and just kind of on it. Everything is done with care. Take a moment to sit at the back and read some of the lovely hand-written notes left by customers. Shows you how international the area is and also the kind of person who gets pulled into this cafe. The team themselves are from all over, and have great stories about Singapore and Edinburgh!Sadly, I think they lose out on quite a lot of bznz due to Aldgate Coffee House being right next door. Might be worthwhile for the owners to do an express lunch takeaway? Either way, the next time you’re in this area, give it a go!
