Mediocre at best. Quite a lengthy wait for food despite only 3 tables occupied. They seem to do a roaring trade in deliveries. Atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant. My companion’s chicken pad thai was supremely bland. None of that balance of sour, sweet, fiery and salt that typifies thai food. Noodles and veg had been cooked to a limp death. My duck larb was not bland but the sauce was clearly commercially made. None of the punch of fresh lime or herbs that are normally in a larb. Also missing the crucial toasted ground rice powder that prevents this dish from being too liquid and lends a roasted crunchy bite. The sticky rice I ordered to go with it had an unpleasant hard crust on the top. The rice arrived long after the larb. The best dish was an aubergine side we shared. A bit on the bland side too, but at least it contained a few leaves of basil. We asked for chilli oil that was surprisingly flat as well, as all of the chilli heat had been fried out to hell. I also asked for fish sauce but was told they don’t have it. I have never heard of a Thai restaurant that can’t supply fish sauce. If you want excellent Thai in the neighbourhood and can afford to splurge more go to Som Saa on Commercial Street. If you just want a decent cheap asian meal, try the Korean Bento Bab on Commercial Street or the Szechuan My Old Place or the Vietnamese Hohaki, both on Middlesex Street.
