I recently discovered this wee lane on a visit to a thai restaurant around the corner. i will write about that fab thai in another post, but we dropped in here for a drink prior to my second visit to that same thai. This is bang in the middle of the city, off Bishopsgate, behind the high rises and financial hq’s. That said, it still retains a local residential feel. It shows football, but it is by no means a yobbish crowd. Instead very polite football fans mix with cider lovers and the odd tourists. This place specialises in ale and cider, so you can really get to grips with the wide range of choice if it is your bag. They also offer food, the top end of good pub food with all the staple dishes such as pies, burgers and fish/chips. There is an open bar area as you come in, but booth seating on the side and even a little quiet corner for couples. We went in for a quick glass of wine and were glad to discover this as option for city drinking without the crazy crowding. Also, with my partner being a huge football fan, it also presents a comfortable place to watch the games while I stuff my face with what looked like amazing food.Great spot! Highly recommended. cookandpour.co.uk
This is probably the coolest pub in the area. With a great and large selection of ales and ciders that change regularly so youll never get bored if you ask for the staff suggestions on whats new, nevertheless youll always find the classics you love. The atmosphere is relaxed and cosy with some nice background music. What you cant miss: The Scotch eggs homemade and always fresh, definitely the best scotch eggs Ive ever tried!Otherwise you can also try the Spinach and feta samosas, the falafel and if are feeling really hungry (honestly: really hungry) go for the Sausage and mash with onion gravy! All food is homemade by the Chef and it is absolutely delicious. They also offer group menus and sharing platters that are great to have a taste on almost all the food menu.
This pub offers a great selection of craft beers and ciders. I’m always trying to include this pub in my Friday evening pub-crawl route when I’m in the area. You won’t be disappointed by the sausage rolls and scotch eggs available directly at the bar…
Cool pub, wide selection of beers. The williams is nice and tucked away just along from the breakfast club. This is an ale drinkers pub, a place to sit and work your way through the chalkboard of local and foreign craft beers and ciders. The food here is so good with a wide selection for all tastes. As far as the beers themselves go I would recommend lagunitas or 3 Weiss monkeys.
This place is an absolute hidden gem right by Spitalfields. I will be honest I only discovered it when I couldn’t get into the mayor of scaredy cat town next door. This is a cosy pub with a huge amount of ales & ciders on pumps & bottles. Rustically decorated with a few quirky touches like a blue piano & candles everywhere it has a homely feel to it. My personal highlight is the great selection of board games they have on offer – always a winner in my book. For this pubs location, it never seems that busy a great place for a lovely intimate drink & the food looked yummy too.
