As a Portuguese living in London it’s always nice to eat home food. I tried the Bacalhau Brs, it was good but I prefer it with less olive oil. Nevertheless, a nice place to try Portuguese food in the centre of London 🙂
I’ve been to the Newburgh street Canela which was fantastic. Great food and great service so I had no hesitation in stopping at the Coventry Garden branch for lunch. Alas it was a big disappointment. As I mentioned I’ve been to the other branch and the food was piping hot and fresh but after ordering the meatballs and rice and being told they had run out, I opted for the chicken lasagne which when it turned up shortly afterwards had clearly been microwaved. It was dry and had a rubbery consistency. Saying that, it wasn’t unedible and that isn’t my main gripe. My main problem with this place was being asked to move when I was halfway through my meal to accommodate a group of four that had turned up. I wasn’t even on a four person table, I was wedged into a corner on a table for two. Needless to say I refused and immediately halved the waitresses tip. The price for one diet coke and a chicken lasagne (just lasagne and a bit of salad i.e no chips or rice) was 10.40 which wasn’t terrible for where it was and the lasagne wasn’t exactly small. Having said this I wouldnt return here but would definitely return to the Soho branch, I’d suggest you do the same.
Delicious food. I had a daily special (chicken) while my friend had the vegetarian lasagna. Both were excellent, and it’s also a nice place to hang out.
‘Budget’ Portuguese/Brazilian. Great caipirinha! Good little place for a Portuguese/Brazilian snack while spending all your hard earned wages in Soho!
