I had a fantastic meal at Jar Kitchen! It was four of us and despite we stayed downstairs, we felt very well looked after by the waiters. For starters we had artichokes and some shrimps with a very yummy sauce. We have all ordered different mains and they all were all delicious! We all agreed this will be our go-to place whenever we go for theatre in the area – friendly staff, pleasant food, charming and conveniently located venue, what else can we ask for?

My friend and I have visited Jar Kitchen this morning for a bottomless brunch. It was her bday so it was my treat to try this place together for the first time. The food was delicious and the drinks were great. One note in the food side – It would be good if you have soya milk and agave syrup for people who have nut and dairy allergies. The service from Lauren was pleasant and polite, however, Lucy was not in her best shape to appear in front of the clients. She was not sure at the beginning which table to seat us: we were sat in the middle of the restaurant even I requested in advance to have more quiet spot for my bday girl and me. Then she offered a more quiet spot ( thanks I guess?!). 15 mins before our leave time she marched near our table and with authoritarian voice told us that we have to leave in 10 mins and there is time for only one more drink and nothing else. We asked Lauren, our nice waiter, who was Lucy and she told us it was a co-owner. We could not believe that!!! Guys! You run a small business in Central London and you have that attitude ?!?! Lucy, the co-owner of a small, cozy place being rude, bitchy and ordering her customer to leave was not the service we expect for bday brunch. So if you are only after the food, then it is a good place, however , I really hope you will not need to encounter rudeness of the co-owner and 12.5% service charge should not be added to the bill at all.

Jar Kitchen, Covent Garden once upon a time when I didn’t have a kitchen, had an early start to the day, hot breakfast was something I looked forward to. When that happens, I want to be in my pyjamas, have a cup of coffee, read the news (or check my social media) and be left undisturbed until I’m done. Most days now I get that quite a lot, unrushed and slowly waking up by the caffeine kick. I feel very privileged. Therefore when I agreed to go to Jar Kitchen for brunch, that really surprised me. For a very long time now, it is the only time I think I actually got up for breakfast in central London. The front of Jar Kitchen had a very indistinct presence. The dark coloured front blended quite well with the cold grey London and seem to blend into the neighbourhood. Inside was cosy and had a nice neighbourhood cottage feel, almost as if everyone knew each other. But that might just be the closeness of those tables. I was seated by the window and it was not comfortable.Saturday brunch, Jar Kitchen was full house; upstairs and in the basement. JK full English 10.50sausage and kimchi 9.50I find the presentation of their food a little sloppish. Well, they probably knew we took advantage of their 2 for 1 brunch offer, so probably only half the effort went into it. Food wise was also pretty average and when they brought us our plate of bacon that was forgotten, it was tough as old boots. The taste of kimchi pickle was a little too intense and it actually tasted more of a saurkraut version. Service was friendly but felt a little hurried. I am not sure if that was how I wanted to feel on a brunch weekend mode. Plus my situation is now different. I am spoilt with Mr L making the best scrambled eggs, served in bed with coffee is going to be tough competition for anywhere else. Jar Kitchen also serves lunch and a pre-theatre menu which I had heard good things. I do hope to give another chance to Jar Kitchen. But perhaps, just not yet. vi-vian.com

Swank Levels: 3/5Located in the Covent Garden area, The Jar Kitchen prides itself on delivering locally sourced produce and fresh ingredients to its customers. A bright and airy yet intimate room on the ground floor, jars of all shapes and sizes can be spotted on the walls and tables. This gives the restaurant a kitsch, modern feel whilst also displaying their passion for sustainability.Would I Want Seconds?Unfortunately despite the great ambience and friendly wait staff, vegetarians do not have much choice at all in The Jar Kitchen. As I was not keen on the sole vegetarian starter offered (courgette flowers, goats cheese, honey, walnuts), I was guided by our helpful waiter to try the cauliflower and blue cheese side as a starter which was tasty and of a good size.To my dismay, for my main course I had no choice but to order a salad which in my opinion should only ever be a side to a fabulous meal. However, I was please to be proved wrong as the dish of mixed grain salad, roasted heirloom carrots, coconut yoghurt, pomegranate, almonds, herbs was delicious. I was perplexed by what seemed to be a multicoloured vegetable within the dish however this later turned out to be the heirloom carrots which were quite delightful. Also, I’m not sure that anyone could argue that pomegranate seeds perk up any salad although in this case they were the icing on the cake to a great combination of flavours and textures. As I can’t stay healthy for too long, I also ordered some triple cooked chips as a side and these were crisp and just how chips should be.For dessert, I opted for some mini doughnuts and I am so glad that I did. The warm cinnamon doughnuts were mouthwateringly good and the salted caramel dip was so delicious that I didn’t even miss the chocolate dipping sauce that doughnuts are normally served with.Could I Afford Seconds?Prices are quite standard with starters starting at 6, mains ranging from 9.50 to 18 and all desserts at 6. Luckily for veggies, prices are always on the lower end of the spectrum so the meal I experienced was definitely of a reasonable price.Overall? As I specifically review for the vegetarian palette, The Jar Kitchen is a tricky one. There are a distinct lack of choices compared with the options for carnivores so on first glance The Jar Kitchen might be one to avoid. However if you are accompanying meat-eating friends, trying to stay healthy or simply craving some amazing doughnuts then you cant go wrong with The Jar Kitchen. herfavfood.com
