This is a place with a lot of history and you get that feeling when you walk in. It mixes an old-fashioned dcor with something a bit more contemporary to create an atmosphere which is original and interesting. It is French bistro cooking at it’s finest and the service was excellent and was happy to leave a generous tip. The food was fairly decent but nothing amazing. Nonetheless, I would consider going back.

Better if I was French…. As soon as we sat down and got our menus we were generally ignored. It seemed the wait staff pegged us for Americans because of our accent (even though we are Canadian) and decided not to serve us. My family and I sat down at our table around the same time as the French couple beside us (about 5 minutes before). While we were getting almost completely ignored service-wise, they were served with lightening efficiency. Frustratingly, the waiters made us wait almost 2 hours before we got our main meals while the French couple beside us had eaten their appetizers, mains, dessert, and had paid and left by the time it arrived. The one waiter spent 10 minutes talking with the couple as well, giving them directions for attractions and discussing why he was in London from France (for schooling). The food was good, but there are better options available.

An old-school dining establishment in the heart of Covent Garden, which oozes French charm (complete with vintage Ricard adverts and similar memorabilia), Mon Plaisir is a place that any fan of French cuisine simply has to check out. The food is delicious and traditional, it’s in no way minimalist but rather an assortment of classic dishes done to perfection: the coq au vin is a particular highlight, as are the petit-pois with cream and bacon mixed in. The restaurant also boasts a tremendously inexpensive set-menu for lunch and pre-theatre. It is worth visiting for the decor alone – make sure you request a table at the front for this, at the back room is still nice but lacks the same atmosphere.

Interesting experience at this restaurant. Very authentic french food and most of the times you can even see a couple of french folk enjoying the food. The service is courteous and does not get in the way and they are very patient in waiting on you. For the most part, the cuisine is very good. I have had only a couple of disappointments along the way – the sirloin steak being one of them. Most of the time though the Lunch menu (which i usually order from) does the job well – and it not as expensive for a 2 course meal. This is a place to goto for good french food but i wouldn’t classify it as great food.

Arrived here tonight a little late and they were charming about it. The restaurant decoration and design was intimate and comfortable 4 small dining rooms. The menu looked great and there was a specials menu which also looked smashing. But then we found out that there was only one serving of a main course left on it! Plus also 2/3 item on the maiin menu were off. We manage to find something but in a quiet restaurant this was irritating! The service was clumsey and in attentive, there seemed to be lots of staff but not at our table. The wines we drank were good and good pricing for a place of this class. The food was excellent. The chef pulled it off despite the staff! I very calmly expressed my surprise at the menu (or lack thereof) and the manageress (?) told me I should expect anything less as after all it was a Monday and the chef only prepares 4 of each !! But then the cheeseboard arrived. This made everything all ok. There must have been 30 to choose from and I suddenly felt less cross. Would go again but it would be great of they had got the service and menu issues right by then. But maybe not on Monday!
