This price and the amount of food that is received makes it a great deal. It is tucked away in such a hidden location on a busy route, I was surprised it was nearly empty. Compared to the chain cafes around the area, there is better food here. Cafe onion also has heaters under its umbrellas just when the walk proves to be chilly. I would recommend. The full English Breakfast is average but the salmon baked bagel is such a treat.

Bad food, service could be improved. We stopped at lunchtime today to have a breakfast, the chap running the place was quite friendly and we ordered two breakfasts and two coffees. All of the items on the breakfasts were lukewarm and had obviously been (mildly) reheated after being pre cooked, with the exception of the sausage. The egg was also undercooked and still raw in parts. We brought this to the attention of two staff who offered to bring a new egg. We ate the breakfast, but would have thought the owner would have waived the coffees or one of the breakfasts given that they were sub-standard rather than charging us 18.40 for what was ultimately a terrible breakfast. Certainly would not go back.

Maybe ok for a sandwich during the week. Worked in the area for a couple of years but never went in as I had a nagging suspicion the food wouldn’t be good and given the location figured it would be a tourist trap. Was in the area of a weekend morning so thought I would give it a go as an alternative to the chains (Pret / Eat, etc.). For breakfast (with no bread as am trying to cut this out of diet) the old guy running the place recommended bacon and egg, so I got this with beans. When they started making it I saw the the bacon and sausages were precooked and cold in the display fridge, and the scrambled egg was made in the microwave. When she handed over the carton the young eastern european girl asked the guy what to charge, he thought for a second and said ‘4.50’. After I paid I mentioned that I worked in the area and had never thought to come here before – the guy looked a bit worried and said I should come back during the week as his son was here and he had ‘a better taste’. He then said he only gave me one egg ‘because of my [points at stomach]’ (!!) and said he could give me another fried egg on top… The food was passable in the end but I think 4.50 for one microwaved egg, one rasher of bacon and some beans is a bit of a rip even with the high overheads around here, and I found the backtracking of the geezer amusing. On the positive side it is one of the few old school family run places in an area full of chains and is probably fine for sandwiches during the week. On this theme I’d definitely recommend City Snacks round the corner on Theobolds Road. It’s run by an Italian family and they have excellent ciabattas and foccacias (never had anything else there though).

Amazing food. Friendly staff offering a homely feel. From immense sandwiches to home cooked pasta they have it all. If your in Holborn pop in and say hello. 5/5

Great Find. Great food and very friendly service. They have a different special every day and the standard menu is both good value and delicious.Very generous portions and good quality too.A large group of us frequent Onions from my office – especially for their Friday special.
