I attended Souk Medina for a birthday dinner. Everyone was given three menus to choose from, listing a mix of starters and mains and deserts. The menus were over 20 per head. No mention of sharing AT ALL. The waiter even did a head count of how many people wanted each menu. The starters consisted on a thin layer of houmous smeared across a plate, 4 stuffed vineleaves and 3 tiny pieces of falafel to be shared amongst 5 PEOPLE. Similarly for dinner, we received 2 small plates of couscous, chicken and lamb tagine between a table. The desert was one piece of baklava, coconut and pistachio baklava (which I have definitely seen in waitrose) and a few <1cm pieces of Turkish delight. Again, to be shared between a whole table. The portions were absolutely tiny. I reluctantly paid 25 to eat 2 pieces of pitta bread with houmous, half a falafel, 2 pieces of chicken, a scoop of couscous, a small bite of lamb and a piece of Turkish delight. Fortunately, it was my friend's birthday so I was able to have a normal portion of cake. The menu mentioned unlimited refills of the plates of chicken and couscous. However, when the food arrived, the waiter was nowhere to be seen. The plates do not carry a lot of food and quickly fill up the space on the table. Probably a tactic so they don’t have to refill.Oh, and there’s no menu or lower price for children. So definitely would not recommend families to go to Souk Medina.Don’t come here also if you plan on talking with your friends. The music is purposefully turned up and it is impossible to relax here. If you are forced to come here, definitely use a tastecard. At least it will lessen the blow to your wallet. It is expected to pay a little bit more when eating out in London, but this was totally disproportionate to the cost. I was reluctant to pay at all. I will certainly never be coming back to this place. Definitely the worst restaurant in London.
Came here once because The Barbary had an outrageous queue. Service is unattentive, decor unintentionally kitsch and when I requested tahini I got mayonnaise. Underwhelming mezze and grill, room temperature pita, but the sausage I got was quite tasty. There are much better options in Neal’s Yard. instagram.com
A excellent place to go. Great atmosphere and the place itself is good. Nice interior designs. The lamb steak was good. The chicken tagine could been more spicy.
Have to say.. The ambience , the interiors, the overall appearance of the place is amazing … Gives an absolute cultural feel.. And depending onThe company u are with, it is an interesting hang out place. If U have the taste card.. It definitely helps to try some big ones ! We ordered a platter with wine stuffed leaf and halumi cheese which cannotGo wrong! A falafel with hummus and pita bread starter – again.. Standard dependable starter! Followed by the main course – lamb (succulent and tender!) tagine, and some chicken thing . I wasn’t flattered by the taste , but it definitely wasn’t bad for an overall experience .I was quite impressed by the Electric Sheesha, the music was good .. And to sum it all up, a baklava perfectly made with just the Right sweetness and a semi filled glass of mint tea ended the evening perfectly ! So there you go..That’s my version of souk medina ! 🙂
I went for my friends 25th birthday for a meal, with 14th others so a big group. It was a Saturday, so it was relatively busy. We were seated in our reserved area upstairs which felt disconnected from the restaurant. Great if you want privacy. But not so great if you want atmosphere. We were quickly joined by another small group of 3 and the belly dancer appeared. Don’t worry if you pop to the loo and miss her the first time. She’s on rotate and considering there is only one, you can’t miss her. The decor was lovely but dated. The 1 waiter was definitely over whelmed. We all ordered the Marrakesh menu, to make it easy for the waiter. But when the food came out she forgot loads. Humus was missing falafel, our hallumi and vine leaves were thrown onto the table randomly. And when distributed we found there wasn’t enough. Only one plate of yogurt cucumber ( placed next to me, RESULT #mine) So many went without the actual full set menu. When we called the waiter to let her know, she asked us what we wanted her to do about it. We told her we would like to speak to the manager, as we wasn’t going to pay for a meal we didn’t receive. He quickly came to our aid and provided us with more, although still not enough and some went without the hallumi and vine leaves were nice. Humus was bland and over blended. Main was lamb and chicken tagine. Lamb was tasteless- the chicken was nice but the cous cous over cooked and had no veg through it like it suggested on the menu. Service was fast as many in the restaurant from looking at there plates on my way to the bar, had ordered the set menu. Drinks were lovely I had the souk cocktail which was nice. I wouldn’t go back. if you fancy a real experience, with great hospitality and flavoursome food, with amazing belly dancers and better atmosphere and better decor head to KENZA!!!
I loved the place. With middle eastern music in the background, belly dancing as entertainment and amazing food, there is nothing more that you will need here.I tried the Casablanca feast menu as our server recommended this to us. The meze consists of pitta bread, falafel, humous, vine leaves n salad. The pitta bread was warm and fresh. The falafel tasted too good. It has been ages that I tasted original falafels freshly prepared. By the time meze was finished, frankly i was full but mains were yet to come. The mains contained tagine of chick peas, tangine of chicken, couscous, lamb. I particularly liked the lamb and tagine of chick peas.We finished our dinner with bakhlava and Moroccan mint tea.
