They took a lot of time to serve four of us and they don’t do boiled eggs. The portions were not sufficient for the price they charged. I felt they could add some more bread. The food was good though and I give full marks to the chef.

Went here for a late lunch with my partner. The service is okay, they didn’t realise we were waiting to order until we went up to the counter to ask to order. Slightly inattentive. The food – I order a crispy confit duck and my parter the salted beef burger. The crispy confit duck was beautiful. The duck was succulent and not dry. There were just the right amount of salt and the sweet potato that came with the plate was also perfect. Everything on the plate was outstanding. The salted beef burger is alright. To be fair, no beef is as good as Australian beef. The burger had way too much mustard which overpowered the whole bun and beef making it difficult to eat without tearing up. Maybe, just maybe drowning a burger in mustard is a British thing or maybe not, but definitely not our cup of tea.Price wise, when converting it back to AUD, it’s rather pricey. We spent roughly $80 when converting it from pounds to Aussie dollar.

What I love about The Black Penny is that its really close to LSE so convenient for a healthy and quick lunch between classes! They have an interesting menu where you can choose between 3-5 salads to have and they change these up every week! Really good and filling. Value for money is good (9.5 for their salad plate which is really filling). Service is a bit bad, especially during rush hour, they just want you to leave! traveling-foodaholic.om

Food was good. You can choose to mix different salads or salads with protein (chicken, fish…). It’s a nice concept (though other restaurants have that too). But the food is not particularly special. But they change their food every week so you never know what they’ll be serving! However, service was VERY bad. They just want you to eat quickly so they can quick you out and have other customers.
