I’m surprised the average rating is not higher. This place is delicious and if you make it before 7pm you can get a fantastic early bird offer. That’s the advantage of picking restaurants that are close to price sensitive students! I love the Massaman style lamb and the soups. Definitely a nice place for a casual catch up with friends.

We needed a place to grab a bite before a show at the Peacock theatre. Unfortunately Holborn seems to be full of just pubs and sandwich/coffee shop chains. Not my choice, when it’s a grey evening and I want a nice hot meal that I can sit down to.We were quite early, about 6:15, but Thiwanya was open and a nice Thai curry was definitely enticing. So we walked in and asked if they could serve us quickly as we had a show to catch. She assured us that they would and I have to say I have never been more impressed by service at a sit down restaurant in London. Entry to exit in 35 minutes. 2 courses that were ordered a la carte. The food was lovely and quite filling. We had 2 starters, the wontons and the ribs. When I mentioned my shrimp allergy, they swiftly steered us away from the dim sum I wanted to order (which did not have any shrimp or prawn in its description) So you can be confident that they are well aware of the allergens in their food. For mains we ordered the Thai chicken green curry and pork & beans stir fried in red curry paste with egg fried rice and jasmine rice on the side. The curry was very satisfying and hit the perfect spot. We managed to sample a good variety of food and it was all quite filling, given our time constraint. They have a lovely and comprehensive set menu for 2 or more which had a much wider selection. When we have the time, we will definitely go back to enjoy a leisurely meal and try more dishes from their menu. on.fb.me

Amazing Thai place specially for vegetarians who can’t find so much of a variety in this particular cuisine being in london. The ambience was perfect and the service was good . Cost for two came about to be 40 including dessert pretty decent for this place . Prior reservation preferred ! Very romantic too ! theindianorbiterblog.wordpress.com

Tucked away behind the Holborn station, it’s good to grab a quick and decently priced meal. The portions are hearty and the flavours are fine, as long as you’re not expecting anything gourmet or too authentic. I’m not a fan of the big pieces of capsicum in their curry but I did appreciate the green curry being served on a tea light, which keeps it warm through the meal. It’s slightly sweet, however, so I’d go for the Penang curry if you want some more spice. The pad Thai was made with thinner glassier noodles but it was a good twist to the dish. Overall it’s a good casual place for a quick and hearty bite if you don’t want to resort to the numerous chains that Holborn is full of saanyagulati.com

My favourite Thai restaurant in the city! Located very conveniently behind Holborn station, it isn’t too light on the pocket but worth every penny. They customise the spice level as requested, but, being a spice-lover, I prefer everything firey, and their combination of spice and full bodied flavour is the best I have had. While the classic red and green curries are my favourites, all other items are also excellently prepared.

My new work at the Soane Museum is literally around the corner from this place, and though I have just started, I’ve already been at Thiwanya twice in a course of a week, and will almost certainly come back not once. Especially when it is such a gloomy misery outside like it was today, jeez!.. So though it is nearly summer, I felt like something more substantial than my typical afternoon bowl of salad, hence opted for hot&sour lemongrass soup with mushroom and coconut milk followed by aubergine & beancurd served with rice. They made a mistake and brought my soup with chicken, instead of vegetarian, but when I pointed out the mistake they seemed terribly and genuinely sorry, and hurried to serve my chicken-less soup instead. Or not hurried as service today was really-really slow, though i must say to their excuse the cafe was totally packed.I didn’t expect tofu to be fried, add overall the dish was quite greasy (especially compared with my typical afternoon bowl of salad), yet aromatic and rather tasty. The main I ordered last time was even better: it was tofu with thai basil, if I remember correctly, and I shall definitely check it out once more when I am here next time. The price tag of 7 for a vegetarian main, or 11 for a two-course lunch explains why this place would be popular, even if food was half the quality. Luckily, it is both food and price that make Thiwanya a great option for a budget lunch in the area! Especially on a cold rainy day. superfoodie.org

This place is very close to my university and hence is a great place for the spicy lunch you always wish to have. Spicy and in all rightness- a true thai place,Thiwanya’s lunch stand operates from 11:30am till 3:00pm Monday to Friday; however I would highly recommend you going a little earlier as many a times they run out of food. They have some basic dishes on their menu and my favourite is there black bean chicken on rice for about 5 pounds(small portion). Other dishes include chicken noodles, Thai red curry on rice, spicy pork, pork in black pepper sauce. Most dishes will cost you around 5 pounds for a small portion and 6 pounds for a large. However the small portion is pretty substantial for a lunch meal but then again it always leaves room for some dessert.
