Giggling Squid is a swanky Thai place on Calverley Road, near many other restaurants (Sucheera, Ask Italian…) For lunch they serve tapas-style small plates but for dinner they have regular-sized portions….I would say too big, maybe! I came here after watching Dunkirk at the Tunbridge Wells Odeon (recommended, by the way) The ambience is nice, with Thai-style decorations, polished wooden floors and chairs, overall they were spot on with the decor in the restaurant. For starters we ordered the starter plate for two to share, which consisted of fish cakes, their famous salt n’ pepper squid, spring rolls, and beef skewers (not to be confused with satay.) That starter plate was actually quite filling on its own.For mains, we ordered the duck curry, the pad thai, and mixed veg. I loved the pad thai, it’s always a fan favorite among everybody at Thai restaurants. There was just the right amount of tartness from the sauce and the lime juice, and the crushed peanuts gave the noodles a bite. The noodles were chewy, and overall a very well done dish. The duck curry was also delicious, I’m not much of a fan of spicy food but this was perfect for me. The curry’s spiciness was cut by sweet pineapple and lychee, and the duck absorbed all the seasoning and with a bowl of rice made a satisfying dish.We skipped dessert tonight as we had such a filling meal, but the jellybeans at the end were a nice touch to clean our palates. The waitresses were friendly and the food was brought promptly. No complaints. Authentic Thai food. Come here!
