The food in here is good. As a starter I specially recommend the grilled squid and chorizo salad with honey dressing. They have a good selection of Portuguese wines, where Dona Ermelinda is my favourite. The only reason why I don’t score more on this place is because of the friendliness of the staff. Maybe we were unlucky, but the waitress who served us had no joy, recommendations or smile to give!
Last weekend, I went for the first time to Brixton village grill and it was probably my last visit too.My brunch didn’t start very well as they didn’t have soya or lactose free milk for my hot chocolate (the picture attached is the cappuccino of my friend).I was a bit disappointed by their menu for Brunch/ breakfast. They only serve the traditional english breakfast…Nothing more like egg benedict etc.The english breakfast was not the best one! My eggs were over cooked – no runny egg yolk.Service was alright but it was not very quick.Next time I will just wait a bit longer to get a table at Senzala or Burnt Toast Cafe (my favourite places for Brunch in Brixton market). jeannemarieb.com
Brixton village grill is one of the few places that I haven’t been to until now. Don’t know why, I guess there was always something more exotic to try. The menu here is just right, not too many options (in a good way) and the food is as you would expect of a Portuguese restaurant, meaty and grilled! For my first time I went for the whole grilled fish which was a special that particular day. My friends had the aubergine and the ribs. My fish was perfectly cooked, the fish was still moist and went very well with their peri peri sauce. The aubergine was also delicious. I didn’t try the ribs but it looked finger licking good. The portions here are very generous, the ribs could have been enough for 2 people. My (pregnant) friend couldn’t finish it! We all shared the dime bar cheesecake which was heaven. Who knew melted dime bar could taste so good? I’m actually lactose intolerant so if I’m going to eat dairy and suffer the consequences, it has to be worth it and this cheesecake was definitely WORTH IT 🙂 will be back for ribs…
Half the time we eat out in Brixton village we end up eating there. Good value. The cheesecake is to die for although so big you might prefer sharing it between two. The meat is tasty although we have eaten there a few times and the quality varies between absolutely lipsmackingly delicious and pretty good but nothing to write home about. The waitresses are generally very nice but can seem a bit abrupt if they are stressed out on busy nights.
Nice simply grilled and tasty chicken and fish, with no gimmicks, great portion size and good atmosphere
Grill’d has a simple menu, a number of fresh grilled fish and meat options for mains, served with a killer peri peri sauce, and with plenty of rice and salad. Shared the tiger prawns between three, which were delicious, and I had the fish of the day, which was done to perfection. My friend got the pork chops (dish of the day) though, and these were way overdone. Very unfortunate, as the meat/cut was excellent. When the menu is that simple, and you’re bang in the middle of Brixton Market (foodie heaven!), you need to get that right. Service was friendly, the ambience of the restaurant is nothing special.
This is one of my favourite places to eat in Brixton, the staff are friendly and polite and the food is excellent. The grilled Seabass is to die for, just the right flavours. The steak is also excellent and cooked to perfection. These are accompanied by tasty homemade chips and fresh salad. It’s an excellent place to eat for lunch or in the evening.
