Few places have red snapper sashimi on the menu, but this is one that does. as with all Japanese places, i have a system, first the sashimi, then tempura and lastly rolls. nothing disappointed here. the ode of this restaurant is chilled and welcoming.
Everytime I return to Lonon fuji is on my ‘must eat list’, specifically the chicken miso soup. This dish was my hangover cure for many years, when that big bowl of fragrant broth hit the table you started to feel better. By the time you had finished it, what hangover?! I was apprehensive to learn they had changed their menu since the last time I had been back… I was SHATTERED when I learnt MY dish, the chicken miso soup was no longer on the menu. But, I thought fuji has not let me down before so I should still head down for new menu eats. We ordered the chicken kara age – well marinated and succulent, gyoza – tasty little bites, salmon bento – no complaints from my dining companion, a rainbow roll – their sushi is excellent and I had the shake ramen which was salmon in a miso based broth – the closest dish I could find to my beloved chicken miso soup. It was good. It was all good. I was reminded of just why I used to eat here so often. And may have just found my new go to dish!
Fujiyama used to be a decent enough takeaway option but somehow the quality’s not up to par anymore. However, it’s still cheap and cheery so if you happen to a) live in Brixton; b) have a Japanese craving; and c) are too lazy to get out of the comfort of your PJs, you might as well give this joint a try. They’re on Deliveroo, yay. The Amai seafood is a favourite and you won’t feel cheated by the salmon skin rolls. thegirlnextshore.com
Great value Japanese in Brixton – much better eating in than getting it delivered. I had the ramen which was good but definitely not bone broth – lacked a bit of flavour.Beef bento was lovely with really well cooked beef, and the sushi is great. Go for a cheap bite, don’t expect fine dining and you’ll probably enjoy it. feedingfranklin.co.uk
Terrible!. I have dined in a couple of times at Fujiyama and while the service is nothing great, I’ve never had any problems with the food. Tonight we decided to order in. The delivery driver was friendly and it was quick. Upon opening my food and having a few mouthfuls from my soup I pull a gyoza with a fly on it! Pretty off putting!I called Fujiyama who apologised and sent a replacement which arrived in 20 minutes which was great. A different driver bought this dish and upon turning up at our door asked to see the fly, which is fine, we wanted to show them. The delivery driver proceeds to tell my partner ‘man, that’s not a fly!!’ And continues to deny the evidence that’s right in front of him. Absolutely appalling. While I can appreciate that mistakes in the kitchen happen, that kind of behaviour is pretty unacceptable and won’t be visiting again. It’s a shame as it’s a good place for a decent sized group which is hard to accommodate in the smaller Brixton village restuarants.
NEVER AGAIN. Awful restaurant, terrible service, really wanted to give it a chance but it’s not happening. Been eating there since 2002, in the last year it has gone downhill, will never eat there again. If you want to feel ripped off spending your hard earned cash then eat there. Takeaway orders are even worse, always cold and never what you ordered. A real disappointment, AVOID. p.s. Ichiban is around the corner, much better choice.
DO NOT GET DELIVERY. We booked online- at the time it said collection time was 10 minutes and delivery time was 40 minutes. That was THREE HOURS AGO. Their phone number has been constantly engaged (I think they take the phone off the hook when busy.) This is the second time this has happened to us- no food at time of writing and will not be ordering again
