We were welcomed in to this cafe and seated immediately! The food menu is simple, but sounded nice! The coffee was nice, which is a real compliment because its hard to find nice coffee anywhere in London! I ordered mozzarella, basil and tomato on sourdough toast. Firstly, it may have been sourdough, but was cut very thin. And only one piece. And then it was topped with cold tomato chunks and cold mozzarella. On top was a very small garnish of basil. It wasnt exactly what I was expecting, and not overly filling, but did only cost 18 for two coffees and two meals.. so you get what you pay for!

The food was good but the service I received outweighed that element. First of all, the completely wrong dish was brought out for me. Everyone makes mistakes and I hate wasting food so (in order to be helpful and to make things easier for the staff) I told the waiter that I would just keep the dish since it had already been prepared but I was then, surprisingly, charged the price of the second dish (which was more expensive than my actual order). When I pointed this out, the waiter did not look happy but brought me a new receipt. (By this point, a few other things had happened throughout the meal such as one waitress trying to take away my coffee when I was not finished). Finally when it came to paying, I decided to still go ahead and put a tip down and I told the waiter what amount I would pay on the machine- the waiter picked up my card, automatically used Contactless on the machine without showing me the amount entered, put my card back on the table without giving me a receipt and literally left immediately before I had a chance to ask him for one. When Contactless has been used, the least I expect is to see the amount that has been put into the machine or to be given a receipt so I know what I am paying.

We kicked off with a couple of Meantimes which went down a treat, then ordered a few dishes between us.First up was a plate of fresh taramasalata, with the warmest, softest, most perfectly sour sourdough I can remember. The dip was rich, creamy and fishy but not overly so, and was made from undyed roe so didnt have that odd pink hue you get from supermarket versions. It was drizzled with very good, almost-green olive oil, and was truly one of the best starters Ive had lately. After a pretty hefty wait (we had to abandon our cinema plans) came little falafel patties on a spiced yoghurt they were extremely hot and very fresh, green and herby in the middle with lots of parsley and dill, and crisp and brown on the outside. The yoghurt was just spicy enough and the ideal accompaniment.Lamb cutlets were well flavoured and juicy, but not quite meaty enough. I think Blacklock has ruined me for life re chops. Our requested pork belly wrap actually arrived as chicken, and a sandwich rather than wrap no biggie, it was still extremely good. Juicy thighs, tangy tomatoes and the bread was perfect for scooping up the remaining taramasalata this was definitely not a diet friendly evening! We were stuffed by the end, and the bill was about 35 for all the food and four beers. Bargainous. The staff were lovely and the manager so friendly the good completely outweighed the little moans. Their breakfasts look amazing too. Will be back! feedingfranklin.co.uk

I headed to wild caper after work to spend an hour getting more work done on their wifi and ended up having a couple of dishes too while I was at it. Good Mediterranean vibes and pretty healthy, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Wifi is a bonus. Would recommend. whatsarahdoes.com

Not long ago I posted about my first experience of Brixton market at Seven. A few units down you’ll find Wild Caper, an ostensibly popular choice judging by the packed tables and queues outside. But you can avoid the crowds by choosing a slightly more serene time of day, perhaps an hour or two before Brixton shakes off its hangover, so grab a couple of your favourite brunch partners and head here for good coffee and great cooked breakfast.D and I both had the grilled smoked Gloucester Old Spot back bacon, poached Clarence Court free range eggs and hollandaise sauce… Or to you and me, eggs benedict. Served on sourdough toast, it’s delicious but worthy of the pompous label? Perhaps not.We sneaked a look in the kitchen and there were moulds of ‘here are some we prepared earlier’ poached eggs stacked up in the fridge. So not fresh, but retained some of their runny-ness nonetheless so who’s complaining?Mouse had the healthier (and only egg free) option of granola with yoghurt, strawberries and blueberries. As with Seven @ Brixton, we sampled the brunch menu only but I fully intend to return for the Mediterranean delicacies served up later in the day. eatplaylivewithme.com

Nice new breakfast menu. They also have nice raspberry brownie.

Good Monmouth Coffee. Serves good Monmouth coffee, and a good selection of cakes and breads. Shame the coffee is a bit off putting.
