Aviod at all costs!!!!. This is the worst experience of a pub i have ever had! Went here for my nans Birthday, upon entry we were greeted by one of the two waitresses who served us (who were the only good part as they were both friendly and polite). After ordering the food there was a longer wait than expected even though the place was not very busy. When the main meals arrived there were no vegetables at all so you just got lamb and mash on its own for example. upon quizzing one of the staff we were told you had to order them separately (which is fine but it didn’t say this on the board and we were not told either). so we ordered some Vega only to then be told they had ran out! After saying that this wasn’t great we were the told they had peas (by this time we had finished our main course) so was all a bit too late. After asking to see the manager another member of staff appeared to offer us 25% off our next visit! Obviously this would not be happening so we asked for it off this visit to which after another staff member came over and said no.(possibly the rudest member of staff ive ever dealt with) Still no sign of the manager by this point so after asking to see him or refusing to pay he finally arrived to shout at us and give us a barrage of abuse. Finally the offered us 25% off the 3 meals that would of had veg which we accepted to then be brought a bill with the supposed 25% off. However there was no money off the bill at all! They stood there and lied to our face! after which i worked out what the cost should be and gave them that, to which a was told to get out and given some more abuse! In conclusion go here at your peril!!!
Top notch establishment. The country girl has re-opened under new management, as we arrived we were greeted at the door by polite waiting staff who showed us to our table and drinks were ordered and arrived very prompt. We were given the menu and shown the specials, I ordered the gammon steak and my partner ordered the fillet steak .After waiting maybe 20 mins our food arrived hot and the chef obviously has no idea when it comes to portion control but all to our advantage, the food was a plenty and cooked to a very high standard – thoroughly enjoyed my meal and a light conversation with the chef at our table after our meal added to a super night … I will defiantly be returning many times , my only dissapointment is that this place is not closer to my house 😉
Never again!!!. We normally drive out to eat, picking as we find somewhere. My car stopped me outside The Country Girl – so we thought why not. As soon as we got to the bar, we were asked abruptly if we were eating aswell as drinking – I think if you haven`t got a shirt and tie on – you are not really wanted. We were lead to a table, had a pint (driving) and a glass of White. Ordered Pan Roasted Chicken and Steak & Ale Pie. Another glass of White – to wash the awful taste away no doubt! We both left half the meal – and when asked – we were honest and said it was awful. The lady said she would go and find out. She only returned to ask if we wanted a sweet or the bill!! I took the bill to the counter and told them I was only paying what I believed the meal was worth. They were not impressed and said the Chicken was fresh – daily. I have Chicken in most places – and that was disgusting! I was asked to leave after paying a small part towards the bill. Service wasn`t bad to be fair – but the food is awful and pricey. We went up the road to the Navigation straight after – and had some wonderful food. Avoid the Country Girl at all costs!!
Recent meal. I ate in March with a party of 5 people after a recommendation from a work colleague. We ate on a Saturday night and found the pub inviting with an exciting menu. We were not disappointed with our choices of wine or food and shall return and fully recommend to anybody who isnt afraid to get off the beaten track to find a decent meal!
Miss it !. I use to work there ! I came to England on October 2006 to work there and learn English as well! I have to say, the service was sometimes slow, but the chef was doing a terrific job! They had there problem but i think it was a great place! I was working mosst of the time behind the bar and i’ve met really nice people! I just hope the new owner will carry on with the little traditions of The Country Girl !
Very Pleased. After booking at the Country Girl and then me doing things backwards! looked at the reviews which were very poor I was very worried about the booking as we were taking friends. BUT as soon as we walked in we were welcomed and taken to our table, the decor was as you would expect for a country pub, rustic but bright and plenty of room between tables. The food was fantastic. A good night had by all. Will go again very soon.
Pleasant surprise!. I was travelling home from Birmingham and after getting a bit lost I ended up very hungry, and in the area. After trying the pub up the road and getting a very poor reception, I arrived at The Country Girl. The bar staff were very pleasant- if a little dippy! And the food was wonderful! Very reasonably priced, and good pub grub. Only tricky thing was choosing what to have! Also, I was with a friend of mine who has a dairy intolerrance, and the chef came out to have a chat with us. He was very nice and very helpfull, and my friend said she was amazed. She said she never gets that treatment when she goes out- normally gets treated as a pain and is left feeling very ashamed of herself. A lovely little friendly place, and I intend to get back there as soon as I can!
