I’ve tried their menemen, a classic one-pan-wonder with tomatoes, peppers and eggs (add spinach and cheese). I’d go back for that. Could improve on service.
I just don’t expect to have to ask if certain ingredients are fresh. But apparently there are some places that use what appear and taste like tinned or frozen vegetables. This was not reflected at all in the price. 6 for a small plate of soggy tasteless tinned samphire and 5 for a couple of artichoke hearts covered in what I recognised from my childhood to be birds eye frozen mixed vegetables. For main we chose the grilled salmon and asked for the creamy sauce to be served on the side. Just as well because there was nothing to do with a sauce about it, rather just some lukewarm single cream. Miso shocked! misohungry.blog
Very good indeed. Here’s the thing. It’s a local favourite because it’s better than Fat Cat which is too cramped and noisy and full of not so yummy mummies and screaming babies. It’s miles better than Lydia which is a greasy spoon. Reasonable prices, good coffee, very friendly good service. Nice view of Church St and comfy seats outside. Booze – A Courvoisier is only 2.20 which is very cheap for Ch St and they have a very nice white Viognier on the wine list for 20 which is probably one of the best wines on the street at that price.Food: haven’t had a great deal to eat here, but the lentil soup is delicious, as is the home-made apple crumble. Tiger prawns not so good – over-cooked and suspected frozen , but a very nice delicate spicy sauce. Asparagus and salmon was a bit tired but well-presented and soon livened up with lashings of lemon-juice. The Tzatziki is very garlicky – not always a good thing; ut everything comes with baskets of warm pitta-type bread. What’s not to like?I have had a kebab here in the past but – i generally stick to snacks.I Like this place a lot – and they gave me a 25% [off main course] discount voucher cos we spent so much time there over Christmas.
I regularly eat here. It is very reasonable, of a consistently good standard and is relaxed and unpretentious. The Gordian Knot (lamb with yoghurt) and filo feta triangles are especially good.
A brillant little place. Best for brunch or on a sunny Sunday morning whilst reading the papers. Good value, good food. Simple.
