Bad reviews????. I live local, in the same street in fact, as the Fat Cat Cafe and go most days for coffee, something to eat and to do a bit of writting. I could not recommendf this place more. So after reading one particularly bad review in particular on here I am wondering about the motives of some of these people. The food has always been great, if there has ever been anything wrong it is seen to immediately and I have never had any problems with communication with staff. But being Stoke Newington, land of the chattering classes and their brood , the behaviour of some parents is appauling. I have seen people walk out of the cafe leaving a hell of a mess for the staff to clear which they do without complaining.I am always dubious of damning reviews, so its best to ignore the best the worst, and read in the middle. Course this is one of the best, so I am defeating the object I suppose.

Raw or microwaved, obnoxious service. This place is terrible. Here’s how my experience played out:1) Walk in, sit down and order.2) Food comes out, order wrong. Hamburger missing egg and bacon specifically offered.3) Raise it with waitress. She says its not her fault because she wrote it on the order (uncomfortable silence while i wonder whether i need to take it up with the chef directly).4) Cutlery missing5) Wedges are burnt and soggy – definitely a microwave job.6) Bite into hamburger and its raw mince.7) Try to catch the waitresses attention while my partner finishes her meal.8) Finally get her attention and explain that the hamburger is raw. Again, waitress insists she wrote ‘medium’ on the ticket and it wasnt her fault. I reassure her that i believe her but the hamburger is still raw.9) Waitress suggests that its ‘supposed to be like that because its a mince patty’. I dont know what that means but show her the raw meat.10) She then apologies in an extremely condescending way for ‘organic mince hamburgers not being my taste in food’. I explain that its raw (again) and she repeats her arrogant apology twice over.11) Finally I get through to her. She responds ‘Im not in a position to comment on whether its raw or not’. I wonder whether she should be working in a cafe if thats the case.12) As we leave she says that she really hopes that we come again..THE END…

Serve a very nice Flat White. There’s a jug of water brought with the menu. I like that. Service is efficient and inevitably charming. On the downside it’s noisy and when there are mums with babies it can be unbearable. I have eaten here in the past, think it was a bacon sarnie and I as I remember, it was excellent.
