Had oysters with guinness, special deal 12 I think. Very nice, as were the whitebait - though a bit over-battered. Cod burger was very big and greasy,…

Finding a half decent chippy in London can be hard. Add in wanting a reasonable price and your options drop down considerably. I don’t know about you but a kebab shop claiming to serve ‘traditionally fish and chips’ really isn’t for me. Luckily I stumbled upon the delightful Sutton & Sons whilst researching London’s next places to eat. Using fresh fish from their family fishmongers across the road, Sutton & Sons serves up genuinely traditional fish and chips at a great price – well worth the walk to Stoke Newington. Where:Sutton & Sons, Stoke NewingtonWhen:Saturday afternoonWhat we ate: Monkfish and chips, Scampi and chips, Calamari rings, Bread and butterHighlights:Service is incredibly friendly and welcoming The restaurants interior is well consider with nautical references wooden tables, copper pipes an a large fresh fish counterBatter is light and super crispy on both the monkfish and scampiMonkfish is soft yet meaty and I like that it has been cut into manageable chunks The scampi were salty and sweet with a perfect breaded coatingThe chips were LUSH! Proper chip shop chips; thick and chunky with plenty of salt and vinegar, plus a few cheeky crispy ones chucked in for good measureThe calamari was well cooked and not at all chewyProsecco is served in individual bottles which is quite fun, with a brilliant sparkle and fresh flavour Lowlights: Unsure the salad was needed on all the platesOur starters were initially forgotten then arrived half way through our mainsService was a little bit slow at timesOverall:I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Sutton & Sons. As I said above, finding a good chippy in London can be hard but Sutton & Sons certainly fits the bill. Please do go visit! theyoungdomesticgoddess.blogspot.com
Love to come here and sit at one of the tables outside to watch the world of Stoke Newington go by in the summer. They do an excellent deal of six oysters and a glass of process for 10.00, the oysters have always been fresh and delicious. I have to confess I haven’t tried the fish and chips yet but will definitely be visiting again soon to fix that.
Serving the widest choice of fish in North East London, Sutton and Sons is located on the high street that joins Dalston Junction and Stoke Newington stations together. Seafood is sourced daily, fresh from the Sutton and Sons Fishmongers, their main seafood supplier. An established and reputable entity in its own right, with its roots stemming back to 1998, serving schools and its local community. This is my first time trying samphire, it is a european plant of the parsley family, grown on rocks and cliffs by the sea, or as Chris explains it its usually found in swamps or marshland. There is no need to add salt to these as its salty aroma stems naturally from its growth in these areas. I think I may have found vegetables I finally likeReally large portions at Sutton and Sons, so you would really get your moneys worth. I had the tuna burger, youre given a thick slab of tuna sandwiched by soft buns and a bowl full of fries. eatwithsteph.com
That Fish Supper !!. That fish supper was delicious !!With a wedge of lemon to start it off…The batter was crisp to the bite and the cod was perfectly cooked !! The chips were Moorish and great, you could tell they were healthily cooked !!A newbie to the Stokey area – but a friend recommended Sutton and Sons…Really glad I went there.A great Saturday night take away !!
Avoid!. This place is a joke, at best pretentious, at worst a blatant rip-off! Cheap low quality ingredients! The fish is fine, but everything else is really bad. The chips were very low quality, definitely frozen before. Mushy peas had so much coloring in them it looked radioactive. The `Heinz` ketchup bottle was refilled with some really cheap vinegary alternative, speaking of what, even the vinegar was bad, honestly!!! On top of the bad, pushy service (despite having to wait 15 minutes for our check), these people do not accept cards, cash only! Don`t spoil your meal and patience, avoid, there is much better in East London.
Laura. I eat here every few weeks, I love their grilled fish, especially the seabass and a glass of Borough wine! It has a good atmosphere, it’s not too hipster/trendy, and there are plenty of London locals I’ve seen there too.
Change the frying oil. For me a good fish and chips means hand cut chips, fish relatively fresh and very important, the oil should be changed pretty much often.I have had fish and chips a couple of times here but apart from the interiors that would appeal to a middle class crowd, the meals I had were both times disappointing if we consider the average price of 10 per portion. Both times I struggle to digest the food and I am pretty sure this is due to the oil.The chips were ok but nothing out of this world.I would say over priced and not that tasty after all.
