We just live around the corner and have been here a few times. Mainly sundays!Staff is very nice and helpful. The Sunday roast was great! Absolutely delicious and perfect to cure ahangover. We didnt have to wait long! I had the kids portion which was plenty of food, followed by the apple crumble! They do have an outside area as well! Perfect pub for a relaxed weekend get-together and some decent pub food!
I came here after an intense work out at the Castle Climbing Centre. We were looking for some high protein food as well as good food and a lot of the climbers said this was the place to go.Going on a Sunday we got the luxury of the Roasts and they had many options for what we wanted including Pork, Beef, Lamb and a veggie option. As for drinks they have a huge array including ciders, beers and wines that are bottled and poured, The main dinner room is upstairs and when we walked in after waiting 20 mins we were shown to a table.Annoyingly there is no waiter service so once you’ve gone upstairs you have to go back down and order. Once you order you are given a spoon with a number on that tells them where to take your food. The plates are literally overflowing especially with the pork, I did notice that you do tend to get less meat on the Beef and the crackling on the pork that was stated largely on the menu was literally the size of my thumb which was a bit disappointing. Each plate was served with green beans, carrots, broccoli and red cabbage to finish off the meal as well as the giant Yorkshire pudding that is placed on the top.Overall it was a filling meal and you got a bit of everything but I was let down by the crackling which was the one thing that everyone at the table got excited about. The atmosphere was fun in the pub and I can see it being a regular occurrence when I go to the Castle Climbing Centre.
Lucky to have The Brownswood as my local. Decent range of drinks inc real ales, wines and ciders. Food is always very good, – try the burger! Friendly management and regular themed nights. Their pub quiz on a Wednesday is very popular so book ahead!
