There are certain Sundays in everybodys life when all you want to do is have a good breakfast and walk around a park all day. Moka East was a lovely find on one such Sunday with the perfect lazy vibe of a lethargic caf. You really dont need loud music and too many people talking around you when all you want to do is sit on a sinky leather couch and read the papers. I had the Kippers with Egg and toast for breakfast which was a little too salty for my taste but I forgive them that for the rest of the happy experience. With a brilliant view of the Olympic Park; each time I looked up from the newspaper I saw people sitting quietly, staring out into the open with a hot mug of coffee in one hand and a book in the other. These are the small packages all good things in life come in. In a nutshell: Moka East is nothing out of the extraordinary really; no need to come up here especially for some Cappuccino; but if you live/visit the area do drop by for some breakfast.

What a great find! It’s on a far edge of the Olympic Park and so remote, that I’m surprised it makes a single sale in a day, but it was packed when we walked in.They have an extensive list of hearty breakfast and lunch dishes. I went for a pretty decadent fare of eggs royale: toast topped with smoked salmon topped with a poached egg topped with hollandaise. It was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The atmosphere is kooky and the decorations are mismatched, with graffiti here and ornate silver platters there. There are guitars propped up around the place labelled with invitations for anyone to pick up and play. Both staff and clientele are pretty bohemian, and with an outdoors art gallery lining the way to the front doors it is clearly a self-consciously unique place. Not particularly accessible unless you live in the Bow/Stratford area or are having a day out to the Olympic Park. Nevertheless, one of London’s great secrets.
