By far the WORST Chinese take-away I’ve ever had. Deep fried reconstituted chicken cut into strips over white rice. The sauce (that I had to buy separately!) tasted so bad I didn’t use it. They probably serve better food in prison.

I went to the Happy Garden a few years ago now and was disappointed with the meal I had, in particular the unpleasant rubbery chicken. I vowed never to return but a change of ownership resulted in me giving it another go and I’m delighted I did. The food is fresh and tasty but most importantly of all is not swimming in oil as a lot of Chinese meals can be.The meat springs rolls (the menu says 2 per serving but I actually got 4!) were light and crispy and the prawn toast again crispy and delicious. The Kung Po chicken is spicy and full of flavour, the Duck with Cashew perfectly cooked and with lots of meat. All were accompanied by a suitably eggy egg fried rice. What really stood out for me was the freshness and flavour and I’m really happy to say that the Happy Garden makes me happy! It’s reasonably priced and a great local option.
