Mel’s Cafe is a spacious, modern cafe serving good, hearty food in the middle of Earlsfields ‘yummy mummy’ district. Most establishments in the area are full with ladies who lunch and this place is no exception. I went with my own yummy mummy friend for brunch, complete with baby and pushchair in tow, and there was plenty of space to accommodate us. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with a background hum of families having fun.Our lattes were, disappointingly, almost scalding hot so you couldn’t drink them straight away – this does annoy me! We both ordered the Young American Pancake Stax, which consist of generously sized pancakes with bacon, sausage, tomato, mushroom, fried egg and maple syrup and happily these were cooked perfectly. The meat produce is of a high standard and unbelievably for me the combination works amazingly well. This was my first time eating an American style breakfast with maple syrup but it won’t be the last as the savoury meat and sweet sauce tasted delicious together. My companion had visited before and she loved it.There was a lot more talking than eating going on, and at one point baby had a little strop, but at no point did we feel rushed or unwelcome.Mel’s is great and I’ll definitely be returning.
