Top marks to Da Lucio for authenticity after eating there for the first time this week. It seemed very Italian, very frenetic and lively in atmosphere and very evocative of some part of Italy in menu too. Unfortunately there were lots of points to improve, along with the positives. The bread basket to start (which is not free as in some Italians) was stale and fairly tasteless; olives were fine and very generous in portion having said this. My partner’s spaghetti carbonara was apparently delicious but not that authentic due to the fact that cream had been added. A lot! My mixed grilled fish was fine but under-seasoned and very ungenerous portion-wise for 21. Added to this the side salad were foul – sorry soggy lettuces and no dressing which was a shame. I am fine to make my own but some lemon would be appreciated! The best parts of the meal were definitely the Puglian house wine, which was great value and delicious and the tiramisu which was stunning. There are better around the area in my view sadly….
I had a simple but satisfying spaghetti tossed in pesto here, followed by their signature chocolate pot. Expect humongous portions and flawless service, but I wish they had served some bread to go with the pasta and that the pesto wasn’t that runny. Bright and vibrant place, nevertheless.
Left waiting….. We love this resteraunt usually, great food and atmosphere, but we went last night and whilst it didn’t take us long to be seated and yo get a menu the rest from there was one long drag. Maybe we were on one of those tables that just seem in prime position to be overlooked but getting service became painful and our food order clearly had been forgotten (despite them only catering for 2 sittings at 7pm and 9pm) as everyone else in the place who arrived with or after us was well in to their mains we were left salivating for well over half an hour. By the time we did get our dinner, we wanted to spend out on more drinks and then dessert but the thought of the process was too much so we asked for the bill, and after another half an hour and asking three of the waiters we left. Real shame as maybe they were just having a dis-organised night, this was certainly inconsistent with our last visit but we will be looking to go elsewhere next time.
Great neighbourhood restaurant. We have been coming to da Lucio for a couple of years now and have yet to have a bad meal. The pizzas are the best in town-incomparable to the pizzas in the chain restaurants. Great selection of starters and pastas too. Specials are good too especially the stuffed courgette flowers they do in the summer! Yum! It can get quite noisy at weekends which is why we normally go midweek. Thoroughly recommended!
Simply the best little italian in the Surbiton area. Great food, full of flavour. Some of the best chilli oil I’ve ever had! Tables a little packed in but all adds to the atmosphere.
Simple food, well done. Had a lovely meal here. Portion sizes are excellent, good wine, good service and the food tasted excellent. Only bad thing is the noise level- it’s so loud in there!
Lovely little local Italian. Good food, very reasonably priced, nice ambience and excellent service. Pizzas are particularly good.
