It’s a good looking place. Better than most of the Vietnamese restaurants I frequent on Kingsland Road.Food was mediocre. We both had pho and shared an order of stir fried morning glory. Morning glory was nice and garlicky but lacked seasoning. Broth for the pho was insipid. Served with a wedge of lemon instead of lime. I had to ask for hoisin sauce. Not very generous with the beef. Good selection of fresh herbs though.Service was annoying. Although the restaurant was empty the three occupied tables were all sat adjacent and crammed quite close together. When one couple beside us left, the next newcomers were sat at that very table. They protested, but were not allowed to occupy any of the many empty tables in other sections of the restaurant.I really hate it when waiters keep trying to steer you towards the most expensive items on the menu. This was the case for both food and wine. It was ridiculous to be told that the cheapest bottle of white on the menu was not very nice. It was actually fine. We both ordered pho (the cheapest complete meal) out of spite, I think. Because they are newly opened, Caphe Pho is running a 2 for 1 discount on mains. Check on their website if this is still running. However, even with the discount, a BYO on Kingsland Road is better value and better food. With the discount, we were charged for one pho, one stir fried morning glory, the cheapest bottle of white and service. The bill still came to 40, which is slightly more than what we typically spend on Kingsland Road for a superior meal.
