Really enjoyed this place. Great food, great wine and really cool, after work, atmosphere.I had to order the chop, since it’s what this place is named after. And I have to say, I am not sure what kinda lamb they got the chop from but it was huge! And tasty the pie on the other hand looked and tasted a little unorthodox.Service was a little slow, but with the wine flowing, and atmosphere pumping, it didn’t really matter.
A surprise date night brought me to the first dates restaurant. The matre de was lovely and very helpful showing us to our table however the table they had seated us at was small and between two very close neighbours. After asking to move, we were told there were no other tables (the restaurant was a third full at most) I took matters into my own hands and found a spare table we liked. After 10 minutes, we were sat there (with many grumpy faces from the staff)Once sat at a better table, we ordered our food. We had some of their bread and butter and it was yummy. The bread still warm and the butter just slightly salted. As a main we both had bavette steak and chips with peppercorn sauce. The steak was perfectly cooked, the chips lovely and crispy and the sauce, peppery and full of flavour. The portion size was perfect and I could not eat another bite. The meal was slightly pricey but the atmosphere was lovely and we enjoyed our final drinks outside, under the blanket looking at St. Paul’s. It was magical. The food was good, a really lovely steak but it can’t make up for the service. The staff (apart from the lady at the front of house) were rude, slow and didn’t seem to care at all. A shame as the rest of the meal was wonderful.
Food EXCELLENTAmbiance – fabulousLocation – WonderfulWaiting Satff – Polite enoughFront of house – A lady in particular was utterly disappointing , clearly neglected and didn’t make any time to make us feel welcome or valued. The prices are such that the least you would expect is a prompt response and service when you ask politely . She was an utter farce and Ruined my meal i was that angry .
I visited for a second time with some friends after work.We had the chapel down sparkling which was delicious and for bar food I had the short rib beef fritters which were delicious and my friends all had the pork crackling which they enjoyed. The staff and particularly the manager Sam could not have been more helpful. Now cannot wait to return for dinner.
Cheddar, Leek and Potato Dumplings with Mushrooms. Good if a bit dry and greasy10 May, 2015Blackberry and Coconut Bakewell Tart with Sour Cream. Devine dessert that was surprisingly served warm10 May, 2015I arrived a little bit late due to my bus being on diversion and getting stuck in traffic but I was still seated. As soon as I was seated a server offered me a drink and I told him I wanted Diet Coke but after having to tell him three times (he admitted his English wasn’t good) he had to ask another server to take my drink order because he couldn’t understand much to my disappointment since I have never had this happen before. Luckily another server who spoke perfect English told me there was only one food item that wasn’t available but everything else was. I was delighted and ordered two courses from the set menu for 19.50. My main course of cheddar, leek and potato dumplings with mushrooms was delicious if a bit dry and greasy. My dessert of blackberry and coconut Bakewell tart was served warm and tasted divine. I also found blackberry an interesting choice of fruit for this dessert. Before and after my dessert two servers offered me a tea or coffee but I refused because I was watching my money at the time so I asked for the bill instead. Its arrival and transaction speed were decent. Overall good food but the service was inconsistent and disappointing, especially that of my drinks order.
How The Mighty Have Fallen!!!!. Two of us had a disastrous lunch at Paternoster today…NEVER again!!! It used to be great place in every respect but no longer: the food was mediocre, service appalling (it took over an hour and threats of leaving without paying before our set lunch main course arrived). The bream was incredibly salty, practically inedible. Such a disappointment after having enjoyed many a lunch and dinner there.Has it changed management? Nobody seemed to care….Marta Drummond
Came here for lunch after visiting st paul’s chathedral. We were promptly seated and given the menu, mainly serving Sunday roast. We started off with traditional Scotch egg, half pint prawns & ox cheek served with Yorkshire pudding. These were all well cooked and tasty, presented on a sharing platter. The prswns, cooked cocktail style were succulent and fresh and deserves special mention. We ordered pork & beef roast with an additional monkfish to share for mains. The roast were great especially the mouth melting pork belly. However I found the crackling to be under-crispy and quite salty. The beef was well cooked, pink in the middle and tender. Couldn’t really comment on the monkfish, as it wasn’t one of my favourites. We also shared a bottle of fabulous rose from Italy which suited the sunny weather that day. The service was good but falls short of excellent. They weren’t as attentive as I like, missing out on filling our wine glasses occasionally. The lady who I presumed was the manager was also under my expectation. We waived for her to order our meals which she acknowledged but rather than coming to pick it up herself, handballed it to a busy waiter nearby which took a couple of minutes before getting back at us. Overall though, it was a satisfying meal but I do hope that they would be able to improve their service standards, given the premium prices we paid.
