After standing in the line for what seemed like ages we finally managed to get a seat – we didn’t go for the afternoon tea but decided to order coffee, china tea and cake! Though everything tasted good but i found the place a bit over priced! Will still go next time but to try the afternoon tea for which it is famous for..
One of THE reasons for travelling to Harrogate, this place encapsulates all things good and genteel. The silver tea service, overlooking the adjoining greenery is delightful, with attentive, personable and interested staff. I love this place. The array of sweet offerings is all too much, and the quality of the savoury treats and more substantial provisions are of the highest standard. EIIR would feel not out of place.
We went on the off chance on a Friday afternoon to have afternoon tea. There was a small queue which was managed efficiently and we were seated within about 5 mins. The tea rooms were very busy but we were served attentively with a lovely quality afternoon tea. The room is very tastefully decorated and kept clean and tidy as part of their busy routines. We observed an efficient tidy up behind a young family without any fuss. The ladies rest room is very clean and tidy. I think this is a barometer of the quality of the venue. I would definitely recommend this for a treat and don’t be put off if there is a small queue.
Good Food But Pricey. Always lines out the door for Betty’s for their posh status. Really good food, but a bit heavy if you fancy that for decent prices but some think it is a bit much. Known for their tea but you can always buy tea and go.
A must have tea experience. In addition, a great shop to bring some of Betty’s delicious speciality teas back home.
Who Wants to Be a Fatty?. Is Betty’s popular? Yes. Will you wait in line sometimes? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. As usual, there’s a reason a popular place is popular. Plus, because Betty’s gets a lot of traffic, your pastry is guaranteed to be fresh. I shamefully admit that I go to the bakery shop several times a week…to get a dainty, pink girly little thing called a Sponge Fondant. If it tastes good enough for me to sacrifice both my masculinity and waistline, it’s got to be worth it. Oh, and the Vanilla Slice (which will also make you a fat lardo), is also delicious. If you’re in Harrogate, don’t miss Betty’s!
The best. Period. If you don’t like to queue, try the Harlow Carr location on the RHS gardens. Fab environment, service and scrummy food. A bit more than average place, but food is a lot better than average place: try yoghurt chicken salad or seasonal hot dish. Coffee is stellar. You can eat outside at Harlow Carr location or visit the gardens afterward. Please bring back the piano playing in the atrium!06 Feb, 2011Best value breads! We buy our weekly loaf and enjoy our breakfasts cobsiderably more. Expensive? Don’t be ridiculous! Same shop in major city would be twice price. Honest ingredients, great service and a changing seasonal selection make this a star. Must have Christmas version of the iconic Fat Rascal.
