Weary going ‘desi’ in the UK. The cuisine is best suited for the non-‘desi’ palette. However I was delightfully surprised by MemSaab, spot in prime Nottingham. Before entering, one sees the praises bestowed and awards won. But the test of the ‘kadhai’ is in the taste. It started with a seafood and meats tandoori platter and they had me from start. The lightly flavoured minty grilled prawns were terrific. So was the salmon, handsomely flavoured. The lamb chops were perfect as were the kebabs. I’d definitely recommend Memsaab for its starters. They have a fine selection of wines, malts and beers. The other stars on the dining table were the chicken ‘kadhai’ – certainly a full bodied preperation. The prawns in a tomato-garlic gravy were just fine as was dal makhni. The pulao didn’t find favour with me. It could have been elevates to an elitist rice dish with a little more spicing; an aromatic bay leave and clarified butter go a long way.The other big highlight is that the staff run the extra mile if you have come to dine with child. The hot chocolate didn’t really feature on the menu, but when my son wanted some, he sure got some. There are many Indian restaurants in Nottigham, however very few places give good food, one of those places is memsaab. The menu is planned very creatively and the dishes sound very attractive. I had the venision kebab for starter and kashmiri chicken as main, both dishes were very well spiced and were full of flavour. The kebab melted in my mouth and had a very peculiar sauce inside which complimented the meat very well, my main was not as good as the starter I felt that it required more spice, also it had an excessive amount of oil. To end my meal I ordered one portion of gulab jamun with vanilla bean ice-cream, it was presented very well and was very nice. All in all memsaab is a good place for Indian food, one of the finer Indian restaurants.
Went the other night. Wait staff were courteous & attentive. Food was outstanding. Could not recommend it higher. Best Indian food in notts by far.
It is a great place to eat the service is fantastic and the food is tremendos 10/10
Fantastic (and often unique) food – not quite the normal fare you usually get in an Indian. Probably my favourite place to eat in Nottingham (or at least in the top 3!)
Wonderful, definitely the best in Nottingham
Fantastic example of Indian food. Probably the best an Indian restaurant in Nottingham.
