This was the first visit to Frankie and Benny’s. Unfortunately this will also be our last. After walking in, it was very busy (we did expect this on a bank holiday) no member of staff seemed to notice us. After working our way to the hosts desk, we were ignored for around 2 minutes and after finally being noticed he asked if it was for a table of 2, still without a greeting such as a simple hello. We were advised that it would be 10 – 15 minutes for a table. We accepted and were handed a device which would flash once a table was ready. However, I only know the use of the device from previous experience as the host did not advise what it was for and simply handed it to us. We went to the bar to get some drinks. However, we were told we could not purchase a ‘bottomless’ cola as we we not seated. We decided to wait until seated. We did feel that we were in the way or out of place in the bar area. After a wait of 23 minutes, 8 minutes over what the host had advised us, we were taken to a table. The table was against a wall and a pillar and the 2 seats were facing in completey different directions. We made the staff member aware that the seats were inadequate. The member of staff seemed irrated, however visiting a restaurant as a couple, I would expect to be able to face my partner at the table. We were ten seated on a booth. The seats were good. We then ordered our drinks and meals a couple of minutes later. We had no issues during the starter, however it took longer than 10 minutes to come. No matter how busy a restaurant may be, a starter is meant to be on the table in less than 10 minutes. My partner and I shared started. Garlic and Cheese Dough Balls and ‘Skins’. The latter was basically half of a small jacket potato with cheese and bacon. No issues here. Once we had finished the starters they were taken swiftly. The waitress advised she would get me another cola. This didn’t arrive. We also asked another staff member during the wait for the main. The main arrived after about 20 – 25 minutes. Still no drink. We asked the waitress again. Finally we got the drinks a couple of minutes later but I feel the first waitress should have taken ownership and made sure we had a drink before the next meal was on our table. I ate a Pepper Cheese Burger with fries. My parter ate Cheese Crust Calzone. There was no issues with mine but my partners’ meal seemed so contain only a small amount of filling. We had bought from the menu which was 2 courses for 8.25. Maybe this is why they had it bothered to fill the Calzone. After we had finished, the plates were taken in good time and we asked for the bill a few minutes after. The bill was 22.40. I left 23.00 as I did not had the correct change and I simply just didnt want to be in there any longer. On the way out we advised that the money was on the table. A staff member relied with ‘Great’. As leaving, we didn’t get a thank you or a have a nice day etc. We just feel like the staff didnt really care. On another note, the male toilets were acceptable. But to top it off, the constant happy birthday music was irritating. Simply far to loud. Overall I rate a very generous 4 out of 10, and I can’t see us going back any time soon.
