The tapas menu is extensive and as interesting as I have seen anywhere. The service is polite, efficient and attentive. We were given good advice about the wine which was helpful and turned out to be ‘spot on.’ However, the raison d’etre of this restaurant is the food. The food is served piping hot, with great attention to detail and with a flourish! The fried calamares are an ordinary, everyday dish is Spain but these were extraordinary. Crisp and hot with a tasty mayo. The gambas with chilli and garlic were a triumph but the dishes you MUST try are the stewed spiced lamb which is ‘to die for’ and the aubergine dish with cheese and tomato. Sounds Italian but it really isn’t! Then there is Patatas Nueve (their take on Patatas Bravas) I don’t think I will ever be able to order PB ever againThe whole evening with family and friends was a triumph and I offer congratulations to the chef for the excellent food
Slow service and food not nice at all. Went there for partner’s birthday with some friends who had come up from Brighton and over from Leeds on Saturday night. Arrived a little early for booking but we offered to sit at bar. Taken to table as restaurant not full. Quite sometime later (had almost finished bottle of wine) we wanted to order food but where then told by waiter that that as we arrived early the kitchen said we would have to wait 15 minutes. Eventually orders taken an food arrived. We thought at least because it had taken so long that food must be because it was cooked fresh. It neither looked nor tasted freshly cooked and with wrong order on one dish. After having been taken back the correct one (peppers stuffed with black pudding) arrived ‘cooked’ about 2 minutes later. It was inedible it tasted disgusting. It must have been frozen then zapped in microwave! Although credit due- the duck did looked like it was cooked fresh and tasted quite nice.Overall experience was that the service was really slow and the food not good at all. Really embarrassed to have taken our guests there. We will not be going again.
Tasty Food. Several years ago my wife and I had a bad experience with the lack of service we received at The Tapas Bar and have not been since then. I am pleased to say the food was just as good (if not better) as we remembered and the service had improved ten fold. The only downside to the night was a large party of young drinkers that were too rambunctious for our liking. We will be booking again but not on a weekend..
Absolutely Fabulous. I have eaten at the Taps Bar on many many occassions and love the atmosphere, the friendly staff and the gorgeous food. It is definitely worth a visit especially for the Tea Time Tapas for 10 per person!! On occassion, generally when the restaurant is full, there can be a wait for food but it is well worth it and because of the attentive staff you don’t even notice 🙂
Good food, poor service.. I have eaten at The Tapas Bar several times since it opened a few years ago. Every time the food is tasty, typical Spanish Tapas at a reasonable price. The only problem is the often poor service – long wait times for the food and an inexperienced front-of-house staff who don’t know much about the dishes or the wine they are serving. I would recommend a visit for the food alone, but remember to be patient and don’t go if you’re rushing off somewhere else afterwards.
