Went here last night and was pleasantly surprised, a beautiful main of duck confit with an amazing garlic mash and tender stem broccoli followed by an even more incredible creme brle. Stuck to the house wine which was really nice and rounded off with a decent macchiato. Good friendly service and a nice crowd. Will be back soon !
A jewel in the crown of North London. The Junction never fails to impress me.The staff are friendly, efficient and professional, the food is always prepared and presented to perfection.Whenever I have been here, I always find they strike the prefect balance between good service and allowing you to really relaxed and enjoy the experience. Not to be missed..just try it!!
Extremely rude. One of my companions wanted a hot whiskey. We were there for the evening and spent a considerable amount of cash on rounds at the bar. However, after our third round, when I approached the bar to order another, the barman serving me got frustrated at having to make a hot whiskey, one that he had already made three times before. The manager then quite obnoxiously and proudly told me that this was the last hot whiskey we were allowed, on the grounds that he didn’t have enough staff on that evening to make the drink whilst serving others. I told him that that was very bad form for bar service in London. He didn’t care and was quite dismissive. There are plenty of lovely gastropubs in North London (the nearby Bull & Last being just one) that deserve your custom. With service so selfishly poor and so rude to regular paying customers, there is no reason to visit this one. I suppose it’s fine when the service is good to you, but what if you happen to ask for something that the barman, quite irrationally, considers wrong and then proceeds to start an argument over it?
Worst service in London. A place in which the staff believe that they think that they are more important than a customer whom may like to be served. If you want go out and be condescended too, this is the place for you.
Loved it!. It had been a while since I had eaten at the Junction Tavern but it was such a pleasure to find it still delivering the goods that I decided to take the plunge and post here. To start my girlfriend had deep fried whitebait which were delicious and I had mussels served with merguez sausage and chilli. For those who don’t know, and I certainly didn’t before I googled it, merguez is a spicy north african sausage. It is true that even though the mussels were moist, their taste was a little overpowered by the strong flavour of the sausages but overall I really enjoyed the dish. For main course, I had duck served with mash, spring greens and a mustard jus and I loved every hearty, warming mouthful. My girlfriend had rib eye steak which was delicious; the meat was cooked to perfection and just melted in the mouth and it was served with hand cut chips which were crisp and dry.I have a bit of a sweet tooth and finished off taking the advice of our waitress and having a lemon posset with amaretti biscuits. It was a wonderfully fruity way to end the meal. The service was great, we were at our table a little early and, even though they had another sitting booked for 9pm, we never felt rushed and were able to meander through our meal at our own pace. We were given great wine suggestions as well; I had a glass of sauvignon blanc with the starter followed by nero d’avola with the duck and they matched very well. It is on the expensive side but the food, wine and service are just as good as I’d remembered. For a special occasion or perhaps a bit of impromptu indulgence I’d definitely recommend it.
That last review is so unfair. So I want to correct this! I took some friends here this evening and had a fantastic meal. Everything was perfect, including the fact that the manager even remembered who I was and made me and my guests really welcome. The food is fantastic yes a little bit more pricey but the quality and cooking more than makes up for it. The menu changes daily with half a dozen seasonal choices for each course. I enjoyed mozzarella (very fresh) with braised pear and toasted pumpkin seeds. Follow by a perfectly cooked rare steak. The beer is good and great to be able to try the guest beers. I have no hesitation in recommending the Junction Tavern. Don’t be a cheapskate and pay for the quality and expertise. But book cos it’s busy. Not many restaurants are like that in London on a Monday!
When is a starter not a starter. We booked a week prior to our visit. On the day in question we got a very perfunctory message telling us to phone to reconfirm our booking. In hindsight it’s obvious that they had booking issues. We arrived on time the restaurant was very busy. Took our seats and, as we intended to have pudding decided upon a light starter of, bread and olive oil plus olives and a bottle of wine. The intention was to enjoy the wine and starter at a leisurely and maybe order more of the same, we had two hours which was plenty. Barely half an hour into our meal, with our starter clearly not finished the manager waltzed up to our table with main courses in hand plonked them down in froint of us before we could say anything and waltzed off. It was clear that they wanted us out in short order. When l asked the manager why we were served our mains before we had finished our starter, he informed me that, what was clearly down on the menu as a starter were in fact nibbles. When l pointed out that this was clearly nonsense he got very stroppy, told me that if l had wanted them as a starter l should have asked for them as a starter!!! And flounced off.I don’t think that l have ever witnessed such arrogant rudeness in a restaurant before. Don’t just take my word for it. There are plenty of sites that will confirm this. My advice would be to avoid the place like the plague.
