Very disappointing. We went here last night for Father’s Day. The place itself is lovely and the young woman who attended us was excellent. However, no matter how much she tried, she could not overcome problems from the kitchen. She apologized for order mix-ups and delays repeatedly saying the system had broken down. This meant the waiters didn’t really know what dishes belonged to what table. This issue would not have been a major problem had the food made up for it. Sadly, no. Our prawn cocktails were quite nice-very small pawns but pleasant enough. It was the main courses that caused all the trouble. Not only were we left to wait over an hour for them to be served-while we watched other tables who arrived after us be given their dishes-when the food eventually did arrive it was not good. My roast beef was as tough as old boots and felt to me like it wasn’t freshly cooked but out of some packet, bunged in a microwave and served up without a blush. The yorkshire pudding was so crunchy I had to break it with my hands. There was one piece of meat I unceremoniously spat out of my mouth because it was just pure gristle. My friend’s potato was rotten inside-she was so appalled she put it in a tissue and gave it to the waitress to show the kitchen. The lamb dishes fared little better. The only dish that reached any real standard of acceptability was my daughter’s chicken. It was lovely if pretty ordinary -but in these circumstances reached the level of gourmet delight. We decided our lives were far too short to gamble on getting any sort of dessert served before closing time and that would be worth our time and patience. Gave up and ordered the bill. The manager had deducted 20% from the total without any discussion so he was clearly aware of the problem. This was small compensation for a disappointing dinner to celebrate Father’s day. Also, he then gave the two men at the table vouchers for a free beer but failed to even acknowledge the presence of the 3 women. The father in question had travelled a fair distance to join us. I’m not going to say don’t come here. I’ve seen previous reviews that laud this place. I’m going to assume it was a bad night -which shouldn’t happen in any professional establishment but does unfortunately-I’m going to return at some point and anticipate a better experience. Here’s hoping.

Lovely to see this pub reopened. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Excellent food and selection of beers. The garden is perfect for sunny weekend lunches. Unfortunately our visit was spoiled by a large group of unruly children whose parents seemed unable to take responsibility for their behaviour, in spite of requests from the staff to do so.In spite of this we will be making this our ‘local’.

Great Pub-The Crown. What a gem of a pub, brilliant pub food, amazing sunday lunch, best in the area by far, 10/10!! The food is accompanied by a great range of drinks and to top the whole experience off you find yourself in a beautiful building with a child friendly large lovely garden attached. Must say brilliant price too.
