Excellent food with excellent service too. Particularly enjoyed the Peshwari naan and bhajis. Our new ‘go to’ takeaway.
I was on the bus one evening going home from work when I spied this Indian takeaway from the top deck. The smart looks and spicy, instantly recognisable smell piqued my interest enough to check out their website and before I knew it I was eating curry that evening. The delivery was punctual although the Jude’s mini ice cream tub had turned into Haagen Dazs but as recompense I had two instead of one – result! The tandoori chicken starter was juicy and full of flavour, fresh out of the tandoor. The lamb Madura is the Cardamom Clubs lamb version of a tikka masala and it’s a fine dish with an intense tomato sauce delivered with a kick of chilli and perfectly cooked lamb pieces. There is spice aplenty here and I can’t wait to try more of their selection. It may be slightly on the pricey side – starter, main with rice, paratha and dessert for approximately 23 – but it’s worth it for the quality and flavour of the food.
An appealing design and eye catching shopfront make this a winning image for those looking for a more contemporary change to the traditional Indian takeaway. The food easily exceeded my expectations – cooked while I waited, I was able to see exactly what was going on in the noticeably spotless kitchen. Staff were friendly and I was offered free poppadoms and mango chutney while I waited – plenty of the local posh mags to read too, even a copy of the latest LRB! Food wasn’t drowning in the usual thin sauces disguising a myriad of dodgy ingredients – no sir! Chicken saag, was large generous pieces of succulent breast with a rich sauce of fresh spinach – I watched the chef throw in an extra handful of large leaves in the last few mins of cooking. Pilau rice was flavoursome, a couple of green cardamom pods to chew on! Tried the aloo gobi and a really delicious puffy garlic naan with a sprinkling of fresh green chilli (my special request), made this a meal worth waiting for (twenty five mins, but it was a Thursday). Definitely worth coming back to… I’ll try a delivery next time!
