Fast food. Went to The James Monroe on fathers day. Place nicely decorated and food was great. However I did have an issue. We booked a table for three adults a toddler and a baby, for two o’clock. We had the two course meal and all was going fine. At about 3:30 the staff asked if we required anything else we declined and my partner continued to feed the baby her bottle. At 3:40 we were politely asked to vacate the table as they had another booking at 4:00. 1/ They said they were family friendly when we booked so how long do they think is reasonable to feed yourself then your children

What a disgrace do not go here. I went for a meal here on a Thursday night. As a chef I can certainly pick up on the shortcuts used by people and there where certainly a few here.I ordered the sausage and mash. The sausages were coated in cracked black pepper and they had been microwaved to be re-heated. So had the mash and it said it was served with a jus but it was packet gravy. When we left the pub i was looking for the chefs horse outside as I think they are cowboys.

Best Gastro In Liverpool. After reading some of the views posted here I was sceptical about my visit to the James Monro. However I was pleasantly suprised by how excellent the food was and how brilliant the staff were. I will be returning hopefully on a regular basis and would encourage others to as well. This kind of venue is a dying breed of original, different places where the place and staff have character. I would encourage people to get behind venue’s like this one as if we dont we will end up left with terrible chain pubs like mitchell and butler and wetherspoons!!!! I am very disappointed by other reviews here giving this venue a bad image and have come to the conclusion that obviously this venue attracts the odd pretentious crank. I however will be returning and hope to see you guys there too enjoying the craic!!!

Not good. 5 of us arrived @ 7.40. Meal booked for 8. Main man asked @ 7.55 if we would mind waiting 15/20 mins. Ok no problem. Sat down @ 8.30. We had checked the menu online, so knew what we wanted. Given menus. Starters ordered ok, mains…..oh dear. No steak, no shin of beef. So that was 4 of us who had to think again. It woud have been nice to have been told, but hey.The wannabe steak&shin of beef people were offered pork stew! (where did that come from?),, Anyway 2 went for this, 2 for pork rib eye with duck egg and 1 sausage & mash.Starters – Caesar salad not much, thrown together, not as good as any boxed salad from Asda. Same goes for the confit chicken. Fish terrine passable.Mains – Pork ribeye – tasteless. sausage&mash -sausage ok, mash lumpy. Pork stew – Dry, bland , claggy and it was served in a ramekin! Isn’t a stew supposed to be on a plate?Anyway, the dessert came to the rescue in some way. Sticky toffee pudding, creme brulee and the cheeseboard. Then again, maybe it was because they were on the house due to the time we waited to be seated. Service was good, however, when I asked him why the steak and the shin of beef was off the menu, he said it was because the chef did not like what the supplier had delivered and was not willing to serve it to his customers. Hmm, now then, when we walked in, steaks were being served. All seems a bit dodgy, but I’ll let you make your own minds up.Food cost 90, total with 3 bottles of red and a round of drinks came to 144 for 5 of us. All in all, A tad disappointing. won’t be back there in a hurry.
