Staff were overwhelmed with a large party I had to wait 40minutes for a drink after being told that it was table service only.I was very disappointed to find that the bar was ‘card only’, then I was charged an additional 1.57 for using my card. Can I ask why I was charged extra when this was the only method of payment?…

This is one of those places that retains its unique charm and quality while the majority of other ‘speakeasy’ bars from the 2013/14 trend have either become commercial or simply poor. Exchanging uniqueness for offshoots of the same thing in other parts of the city. Bermondsey Arts Club has bucked the trend and seems to have held its high standards since its inception and their classic cocktails are in my opinion a refreshing and honest approach without the pretentiousness that has failed so many other drinking dens. Ok, yes it’s an old public lav, but that’s not something they over play on and it seems they have just made good (very good) of a different location. I rather feel it serves it well and once you’re in it feels like another world of deco Gotham city obscurity. A distant world from the rainy damp and cold London outside. Walking down the stairs into the bar is a real pleasure. Whether you’re confronted by a live jazz band swinging away, a DJ spinning their decks or a host showing you to a table this is one of those truly special places that’s hard to replicate.
