I honestly don't know how I've never tried any of the baked goods at Bermondsey's Del'Aziz because they all look utterly irresistible. Innovative look…

I really didnt expect that delicious food. Just 5 min walking distance from London Bridge station. Once you get in you cannot decide what to eat because everything looks great and taste great. If I would have place for more than a dessert I would definitely go for second one but unfortunately… And last day I just stopped and had some take away it was 5.5 for a half sandwich + salad + a half cake. I prefer that time the banana cake but for the next time I will go for lemon one. Dont miss the apple tart. Great taste, reasonable price!
Okay, I want to start by saying that I really wanted to eat food here. However, I got distracted by all the amazing cocktails! I had several during my couple of sunny Thursday afternoon hours here. Starting with a gin garden, which was a blend of tanqueray, lemon, cucumber and ginger beer. Slightly medicinal with a sprig of lemongrass, very refreshing after my 2 mile trek from St Paul’s to Bermondsey! I then had a bramble. Pretty standard but made with good gin, and had the exciting edition of crushed ice & blueberries. Definitely a go-to summer drink.Next up was an Abassid Front Liner, a creamy milkshake with creme de cacao and (sadly) frangelico, dusted with nutmeg. Unfortunately for me I don’t like marzipan/frangipan. But thankfully there were enough other lovely flavours to distract me (plus I was taking swings of 2 really nice Bloody Mary’s that my friends were having)I think the best was the raspberry chilli martini that my friend had. Endlessly jealous that the lovely bartender suggested that to my friend and not me!Will definitely be going back here! For food next time too!
Very Unique place with a lovely layout, along with lovely staff. The cocktail menu is vast and it is clear a lot of effort goes into making them. I didn’t eat here but would consider it next time. The price is what you’d expect in this area and of this quality.
Nice cakes
Situated right smack in Bermondsey Square, neighbouring not only uber trendy Maltby St market but also Bermondsey St, home to a dizzying array of bars & restaurants.Today – sitting in sheltered Bermondsey Square, we are here for Brunch. The restaurant is surprisingly empty, despite its popular setting & the sun making a pleasant summery appearance. The fairly standard Breakfast menu has a light touch mediterranean twist – the full breakfast comes with cannellini beans, pancakes come in a Moroccan Berber twist and a frying pan of eggs & chorizo hits the menu. The full breakfast is hearty fare and neither Dad nor Sis is able to finish.. Mum dubs her Eggs Royale scrumptious and Husband’s deceptively simple Egg & Bacon Bap causes much food envy. For my part though, the French toast was a hit. I was initially surprised to find no condiments of syrup were on offer but after that first bite, I saw why! Doused in sugary cinnamon it needed no syrupy acrouments to make it perfect.Previous experiences at Del Aziz have been slow and unsatisfactory, but it was a good day and the food was prompt and hot. I have no greater expectations than that for my most important meal of the day. inher30s.com
Word of advice.Always follow your gut instincts. Why? Because you know it’s going to be bad when you walk into a restaurant and instead of being greeted by the staff, they stare at you.Not only do they stare at you with blank gormless eyes, but they are sat gossiping away and lazily point in the general direction towards the tables. The next part will make more sense if you understand the layout of the restaurant.Allow me to break it down. This is a 5second walk from the door to the right through a wide passage where you are greeted to sumptuous decor, with velvet cushions and the waft of sweet shisha. Normally, it’s common courtesy to wait to be seated, riiiight? Not in this Del Aziz, waiters look bemused to see loitering, lost customers.Fortunately one took pity on us, and pointed to some of the tables at the back.It was 7.30pm on a Friday night, I should have took note that 4 tables of couples was deemed ‘busy’ and find my own table.Lesson thoroughly learnt.Food? This part needs a thorough dissection. Starters: Hummus 4.50 – This was the most driest hummus I have ever eaten. It was so dry that it caused the back of my throat to clag. This was no hummus, it was a paste. A paste so dry it felt like it had been left outside all day, sunning itself on the side as the hummus was actually stiff.Halloumi 4.50 – grilled cheese, it wasn’t too salty, but it was slightly on the rubbery side. Mains:Morroccan Lamb Shish with Basmati Rice with saffron 14.50 – Fillet of marsh lamb rubbed with cumin & pepper with Basmati rice with Saffron -The lamb was so unbearably tough, it’s sheer grip on the metal skewer almost caused me to fling my plate across the restaurant. Needless to say, I had to resort to caveman style eating. I want to tell you it was glorious after the effort it was to remove the shish from the skewer, but unfortunately the lamb shish was dry due to the fact that it was overcooked, and bland. The basmati rice was also lacking in any appearance of saffon.Persian ‘Koobideh’ Lamb with Basmati Rice with Saffron 12.50- Minced lamb spiced with saffron, garlic & onions served with grilled tomatoes and finished with sumac. The lamb was tender, but the seasoning and flavour needed that extra something. You know when something just needs that little bit of something extra, to bring out all the flavour?Again, the basmati rice lacked any saffron. Yummei?I’ve been spoilt with the Fulham branch of Del Aziz as that branch is so outrageously good.In comparison the standard at the Bermondsey branch was simply shocking, from the service to the food.A quiet restaurant + bad service + mediocre food is inexcusable. You broke my heart Del Aziz – Bermondsey. It was sad 2 hour wait until I was hungry again.Yummeis?3/10 Yummei’s For the FULL review and images – go to http://yummei.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/del-aziz-bermondsey.html yummei.com
Del’Aziz is a small mand well furnished Middle Eastern restaurant at the top of Bermondsey Street. The menu is comprehensive and is especially strong at breakfast and brunch, when excellent fare from a full cooked breakfast down reward the diner for rising in time to breakfast out.At dinner the menu is very broad and the food is well prepared. Staff are helpful if busy at this rather large and bustling restaurant. A particular favourite here is the Turkish coffee, which is served very strong in a very small cup.The dining room is attractice and modern in feel, and though busy and large manages to avoid the impersonal. Though not cheap, Del’Aziz is not overly expensive and at its best for an easy weekend morning meal.
