We visited Leytonstone Spice on a Friday night at 8.30, and were surprised to see the only other customers were a large party celebrating a birthday – there were no other customers. Which was a surprise, because the food was highly enjoyable and great value.I was impressed at the house wine being just 2.95 for a 17ml glass, which for a restaurant especially is a great deal, and the wine itself was perfectly drinkable. For starters, we chose the pakora and onion bhaji dishes – the bhaji in particular was very good, crispy and tasty. As a main course, I had the Lamb Tikka Pakheeza. The lamb wasn’t quite as tender as I’d have liked, but otherwise the curry was top notch – with minced meat, capsicum, ginger, onions and tomatoes. The dish wasn’t particularly spicy, so good for those with a lower tolerance to the hot stuff. With my Tastecard, our total bill was 31 – this included poppadoms, chutneys, onion bhaji & pakora starters, two curries, rice each, naan to share, 2x house white wine, 2x Cobra. An absolute steal, and even without the 50% discount on food the prices are still very reasonable. And the food arrived in a timely fashion too, despite the large party in attendance in the restaurant. On a par with some of the Brick Lane Indian eatieries I’ve been to, I really enjoyed Leytonstone Spice – good Indian food, served well and at a decent price. mini-adventures.com

Dreadful. I never usually leave reviews. But when I come across something amazing or disasterous I feel the need. We arrived at leytonstone spice after calling to make a booking. Resturant is clean and smartly dressed. After taking our orders we waited. Our starters took a while to come out, but once they arrived the start of disaster struck. Prawn puree was bland and bread was quite dry. After being rushed through our starters because our mains were waiting and waiter seemed eger to get them out. Our mains ended up coming out which was lamb instead of chicken for 2 of our dishes. So we had to wait while they were remade. The mains were very enjoyable. THIS IS THE BAD PART. I am pregnant so can’t eat much and my friend were also full. So when we asked for the bill we also asked for take away containers to bring home. AT THAT POINT WE WERE TOLD HE WOULD CHARGE 1 PER CONTAINER IF WE WANTED TO TAKE AWAY. AFTER 5 MINS OF ARGUING WITH ME. HE WALKED AWAY, TO LATER SEE THE OWNER COME OVER AND STRIKE A FULL BLOWN ARGUMENT WITH ME TELLING ME HOW MUCH HIS TABLE CLOTHES COST AND IT ISN’T HIS PROBLEM IF WE CAN’T EAT THE FOOD AND WANT TO TAKE IT HOME. I order from this resturant atleast once a week. But after my first dine in will never again order. I hope it was worth it

Excellent meal. I took a friend to this small restaurant just by Leyronstone High Road station (London Overground) yesterday evening. The place was remarkably quiet for a Friday night but I can only imagine that is because the previous Indian restaurant that occupied the building was appallingly bad. However the Leytonstone Spice as it is now called is very good. The decor is pleasant and the appearance is generally very clean and light. The service was absolutely impeccable and the food was delicious. The extensive menu included many dishes that we had never heard of before rather than the standard Indian fare which many restaurants and takeaways offer. The standard range of curries were also available. We spent a total of 40 on 2 meals (not including the tip) for which we had poppadums as a starter and a curry each with a shared portion of rice with a large vodka and coke each. The curries we chose were about the most expensive on the menu so the total cost of the evening wasn’t that high. The food was well presented and extremely tasty. The complimentary cocktail to follow (Tia Maria, Baileys and cream) was delightful.I thoroughly recommend this establishment to anyone who is looking to eat out in East London. It is a little tucked away and about 400 meters from the nearest tube (Leytonstone) but is next door to Leytonstone High Road Overground station. Seriously, if you like spicey food check this place out.
