Stopped in for a quick bite. Food was really good and well priced. Waitress was very friendly also.
Tony. Called in at lunchtime, the food was excellent and the young lady who was serving us could not have been more helpful. Will definitely use this pub on my next visit to Wargrave
Absolutely awful food. We waited for over an hour for our main course at lunchtime. When it arrived the whiff of ‘gone-off’ chicken actually made my stomach turn. I ordered peri-peri chicken which was dry chicken with a smear of tomato paste – no chillies, herbs, paprika as one would expect. The food was cold and tasteless and the freshness questionable at best. The location is a dream but the food is substandard and I will never eat there again. Probably would go there for drinks, but next time I will stick to a packet of crisps.
Why wait. The George and Dragon has a great location and the food is OK. But the entire operation is let down by the poor service,a situation that has continued for years. The bar is continually understaffed and it can take 10 minutes to buy a drink. In our most recent visit after waiting for 10 minutes at the bar,we waited 40 minutes for a table (20 mins quoted). After placing a food order a jug of water and two glasses of wine did not arrive after twenty minutes and 2 reminders. Eventually walked out.Very poor restaurant management and best avoided if you want a relaxing evening.
Gone downhill. Visited a year or so ago & couldn’t fault it even at its busiest. Been again today for a nice lunch and we had to wait 20 mins for the drinks to arrive….it was the start of a long afternoon. Mums roast lamb was actually raw in places so we sent that back and they brought another portion which was cooked! We ordered dessert which then took 25 minutes to arrive & that was after we’d asked where it was. Judging by the melted ice cream it had been sat in the kitchen! Disappointing afternoon overall. The table next to us also chased their dinners and another table was telling the manager it was a shambles just as we were leaving! Shame, lovely location.
On the decline. Used to be excellent, however for the past few months, the quality of the food has deteriorated greatly as has the level of the service, the pub is notoriously understaffed. We waited 40 minutes for the starters, another 20 minutes for the drinks(!). We were served by 3 different waitors incl, the bar staff as they cannot cope with even a half empty pub.Chicken was undercooked and unseasoned, toffee pudding no longer homemade, some cheap substitute instead (yet the same price).Yesterday’s visit was my last one.
Went here on sat afternoon 3 40 waited 5 min @ empty hostess greet to be shown to seat. Waited further 20 min to be approached for order subsequent 40 min for 2 pizzas and fish and chips to arrive. Pizzas charred when they finally arrived. Did not send back though took photo as too hungry and considered replacement would take too long! Stated complaint to waitress after paying as hadn’t been approached. I was given e mail of manager so ‘if I wished to return’.
