Such a shame. This place is in a fabulous location right on the river with good parking and a lovely outdoor terrace. Both the interior and exterior are attractively designed. Unfortunately the management lets the place down. As someone who lives in the village I have tried the food a few times and with one exception I found the service slow, the food variable at best but often very disappointing, the drinks expensive and the attitude of management when you do complain is of indifference. They may reduce the bill, provide a free drink or similar when you complain about the time it takes to order anything, receive food, or the quality of what does eventually arrive but they really don’t seem to care. The staff seem overworked, mistakes with orders are all too frequent. The bar staff are even worse, long queues for drinks are the norm and there is no attempt from most staff to apologise or even recognise that you exist. Customer service is shocking.
Big Disappointment. Great location and looks smart but the service is a big disappointment and really lets it down. The bar service was dreadful, no eye contact from the staff and they seemed flustered despite it not being very busy. The starters arrived after 15 minutes but we were kept waiting over 1 hour for our mains only to THEN be told they had run out of the battered haddock. I was offered something else from the menu. Another 10 minutes later both our meals appeared and the fishcakes were undercooked, ending what little patience we had left. The staff said the right apologetic things (though with little empathy) and refunded the cost of our main course, at least something. But why should they put themselves in the position where they must do so? The food we did eat was not high quality and certainly not worth the menu prices. In an area where you are spoilt for choice for great looking pubs/restaurants, good service is the deciding factor for repeat custom. We won’t be eating at the St. George and Dragon again.
Food not good. Went for a meal with friends. Ordered the Peri-peri chicken. Like a previous reviewer, I was disappointed. It consisted of 2 pieces of chicken with the skin on, a smear of tomatoe puree (or tinned toms?) on the top, a heap of plain watercress and some bland chunky chips. Very expensive considering the quality. My friend sent her meal back, she wasn’t charged which is fair of them but nevertheless it is still disappointing. I didn’t have the balls to send my own meal back as I thought it was poor but not quite poor enough to be sent back!! I will not be dining there again, a drink maybe but I’d avoid the food!
