A typical British boozer. The place has real charm and is a beautiful building with a great selection of drinks and beers. It can be on the pricey side but in winter, you can sit by a real fire (and you can’t get that at many places in London now can you)
For somewhere on Kilburn High Road, this place comes as a really pleasant surprise. The Victorian decor of carved wood is absolutely stunning, perhaps one of the best of any pub I’ve been to. There are lots of comfortable couches, and even some historical books to peruse through. I often find myself just staring with admiration at the ornate ceiling.Due to the great atmosphere (busy during the day and quiet in the evenings) the prices are a bit more expensive than your average pub but it’s still worth it I think for a civilised drink.Rather than just standard pub food The Black Lion serves tapas. The food is freshly prepared on the premises and didn’t disappoint – very authentic tasting.
Great pub and restaurant. Set in a fantastically baroque interior, this is a good, spacious, cosy pub with an open fire (good luck grabbing a seat near it, though). The attached restaurant is an extremely good example of the type, and a little less pretentious than the North London Tavern up the road.
