Amazing dinner. After rave reviews from friends I finally took the plunge and dined at the Wet Fish with a few friends on a Wednesday night. It was lucky we reserved a table because the place was buzzing, it’s obviously a favourite with West Hampstead’s locals. Although the staff were very busy we were greeted warmly and encouraged to try some of their delicious cocktails (tip- try the WFC Martini) while we waited for a friend. We shared a starter- crispy squid and went on to have a main course each. I ordered the organic salmon with wild rice which came perfectly cooked and seemed rather healthy too. Friends ordered the tempura battered cod which was a modern spin on a national favorite, and the fillet steak (at 8oz my friend described it as ‘the rolls royce of steaks). The meals came in a timely manner and quite frankly, were delicious. With such a promising start we decided to finish with the warm soft chocolate cake which, as a chocolate lover, didn’t fail to impress. All in all we had a fabulous time and I wouldn’t hesitate torecomend to anybody who wants something a bit special. The atmosphere was lovely- low lighting and vibey music provided an intimate setting and the staff made us feel looked after and very special indeed. We will be back !

Best of London. The Wet Fish Cafe is my new favourite place to eat in London! Went for dinner last night with my girlfriend. I ordered the Crayfish Cocktail to start which was delicious, followed by the Fillet Steak, which is to die for. I have never had a steak that melted in mouth and is full of flavour until last night! My girlfriend had the Superfood Salad to start, which was a treat for the eyes and taste buds, followed by the Tempura Battered Cod, which was out of this world and I’m sure will become a signature dish. We both shared the famous Hot Chocolate Cake… it really lived up to it’s status. The service was very friendly and efficient. We were made to feel as if we were dinning at a friend’s house. The lighting and subtle music created a relaxed an intimate atmosphere. The Wet Fish Cafe is one of London’s little treasures hiding in idyllic West Hampstead. I would definitely recommend it.

Disaster saved by good service. Lots of friends and colleagues have raved about the food art Wet Fish Cafe. After checking the overwhelmingly positive reviews on the internet, we ventured along last night, excited about a new restaurant.. On arrival at 9pm, we were quickly seated by the front door and handed menus, with some genuinely interesting food. The waitress then described the specials. A few minutes later, we gave our orders but discovered that our chosen starters were unavailable. We asked for more time to choose something else. The waitress disappeared and came back to tell us that the kitchen had run out of half the menu.We ordered a couple of alternatives, deciding it was too late to go elsewhere. The trout, that we ordered was no more than 5cm long and a few milimetres thick, with a tastless sauce and few vegetables other than a few sprigs of rocket. The beef onglet was small and tender but the sauce was tastleless too. It was apparent the kitchen had run out of food and it was throwing together whatever they could find. At the end, we complained and the very decent manager admitted the kitchen had let us down that evening, giving our meal for free. Given we ended up having one course (instead of three) and our Saturday night was ruined, that was an appropriate reaction. It certainly may have redeemed an otherwise catastrophic dining experience. The lesson is that Wet Fish and other restuarants shouldn’t take bookings after 8.30pm if they don’t properly cater for second sittings. At the moment, we don’t plan on going again but maybe the manager’s service was enough to deserve a second go?

Just caught them on a bad night!!!. Got totally excited after reading all the great reviews. Staff were nice. Arrived at 8.10 got our starters at 9.20pm! After our starter, we got asked if we would like to see the dessert menu??? Unfortunately, we had a flickering light bulb facing us and we got told that nothing could be done about it :(In a nut shell, considering we were non complaining customers, we did not see any signs of any kind of service from this supposedly lovely restaurant. What a shame!!! As for the food, my crispy squid was not fried properly, I could taste the floury batter. Seriously a shame!!

Very good indeed!. We went for a special evening with friends and the staff had prepared a personalised menu for us. The food and wine was all delicious and the staff could not have been better – friendly and attentive but also knew when to leave us be. This was the first time we had eaten there but I got the impression they have managed something very difficult and created not just a place to go for a special occasion, but is also great for a more low-key evening out.

Had a really great meal and a gluten free pudding!. I ate a three course meal at the wet fish cafe the other week and was extremely impressed by not only how nice the atmosphere was, but also how attentive and friendly the staff were. The food is delicious and a really exciting menu which you don’t often get. I had an amazing homemade spicy lentil soup and then pan fried cod on black rice with spinich and vierge sauce. It’s so refreshing to order something which is completely different that what you have had before, it really makes it worth eating out. The absolute bonus on the meal however was that they even had a gluten free chocolate cake I could eat for pudding (i’m allergic to wheat). Which never happens, I always have to skip pudding! Would definitely recommend a visit and I will definitely be visiting again soon!
