Vijay’s is a hidden gem on an otherwise desolate road. You walk in and immediately there’s a warm, cosy feel to the place – making it seem a bit more like someone’s home than a restaurant. One of the best things about Vijay’s is the extensive choice of curries available. Whether you fancy chicken, lamb, seafood or vegetarian curries, there’s a whole range of different cooking styles and spice combinations awaiting you!We ordered the onion bhajis and the samosas as a starter. The bhajis come in a kind of pancake form rather than the common ‘balls’ you see which was an interesting change – it made the bhajis crispier. Personally I prefer the ball shaped ones but this flat bhaji was good for dipping into the tasty sauces provided. The samosas were plump with a yummy vegetable filling. For mains we shared a chicken masala, a lamb methi gosht, two portions of pilau rice and saag aloo between the three of us. All dishes were cooked very well and were good sized portions. The meat was very tender and the sauce was packed with flavour – personally I would have perhaps preferred a little more chilli heat to the dishes but it’s a good thing they were relatively mild as my friend’s sinuses don’t really take to spices! They do desserts too like a special indian ice cream and banana fritters but we were too full to eat any more!It can get pretty busy here (always a good sign!), particularly on a Friday evening so it’s advisable to make a reservation in advance. I would definitely recommend the place, and to top it off the waiters were helpful and the prices are quite good.

Disappointing take away from vijays. I have been a customer at Vijays for more than 20 years. Last night I thought I’d treat the family to a take away from my fave Indian… We were all so so disappointed!! The prawn curry was inedible, the green beans were overcooked and tasteless. The chicken curry also terrible. The only nice dish was the chana masala. I called to tell them of my disappointed bug was told the prawn curry is meant to have a watery sauce…. I told them it was actually tasteless. The whole Indian food experience Is about the amazing combination of flavours. I am English and my prawn curry is miles better, even though I have only just started making it!!!.. I said I would never go there again…. A sad day!!

Really, really love it.. Decor is nothing special, but the staff welcome more than makes up for it. The menu hasn’t changed in ages, but it doesn’t need to. The food is simply great. Do try the masala dosa with sambar. Highly recommended if you want a good, decent, southern indian meal.

Brilliant. We live near to Vijay and absolutely love it. The food is the best i’ve ever had and the staff all lovely.Having tried another indian over in Kensal Green and been very disappointed, I’ll be returning and staying faithful to Vijays!
