  I have only left a one star rating for The Waiting Room as there is no option to leave 0 stars! Do not even bother setting foot in this place! The atmosphere was extremely negative, the cream tea was not good value for money and the manageress was rude, unprofessional and needs some serious training!!! I had been to The Waiting Room once before in the past and thought I would give it one more chance as I wanted to buy my friend a gift voucher for cream tea for her birthday – big mistake! We were only offered the choice of one filling in a tiny sandwich and could only select one cake. The cream cream tea also included a scone and unlimited tea. As I don’t drink tea, in the past the manageress agreed that I could have one coffee instead. When buying the gift voucher this time, I checked with the staff to see if I could have the same and explained that the manager had agreed to this in the past. I was told as the manageress had agreed to this in the past, it should not be a problem! I really didn’t think that one coffee instead of unlimited tea was too much to ask for – but apparently it was! We sat down and when asked what tea we would like, I asked for the coffee instead but the staff insisted that I could only have a tea. I explained that the manageress had agreed to giving me a coffee in the past and asked if it would be possible to speak to her. In the mean time, the staff made the coffee for me and brought it over to the table. The manageress then came over being extremely rude and the first words that came out of her mouth were ‘I am very busy and do not have time so I can only give you one minute’. I calmly explained to her that I only wanted the one coffee and had also checked this would be possible at the time of buying the gift voucher and was told it shouldn’t be a problem. However the manageress said that the last time she had agreed to giving me a coffee was a one off. She continued to be extremely rude and insisted that if I did not pay extra for the coffee I couldn’t have it – even though it had already been made at this point and was on the table! I continued to stay calm and again tried to explain that I was only asking for one coffee instead of unlimited tea, it had already been made, had been agreed to when buying the gift voucher and she herself had agreed to it in the past. She completely disregarded what I had to say and replied ‘I have already told you the last time was a one off and if you do not pay extra for it, I will just put it in the bin’. I was shocked and replied ‘You’re going to put it in the bin?’. She then picked the coffee up, looked at me and smiled and said ‘Yes I’m going to put it in the bin’. She then proceeded to walk back to the kitchen with the coffee. My friend and I sat there in disbelief. My gift to my friend for her birthday and the whole cream tea experience had been ruined! Not only that but I felt very sick a few hours after we had left! Whether you’re treating yourself to lunch or ‘cream tea’ at The Waiting Room, I would definitely consider going to one of the many other tea rooms in the area unless you just want a small snack in a tea room with an unfriendly atmosphere and a rude, disrespectful manageress who is just interested in taking your money!
