Booked for our wedding anniversary a dinner here following a recomendation. Lovely little place, with friendly and helpful staff. We ordered lamb chops and a steak kebab (which could easily feed two persons) washed down with two glasses of red wine. Food was delicious and filling and the wine complemented the meal. What really impressed me was as we were leaving we were told we could not go just yet as we did not get our free glass of port! Again, delivious and the best I have tasted so far. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

I’ve been to Portugal once for a two hundred hour intensive yoga teacher training course. I didn’t know what to expect food wise as it was vegetarian ((natch) and as a total carnivore was blown away by the food. When the group were let loose for a few hours once a week, I headed for the coast, wine and sea food and it was a joyful experience. So, as this restaurant is in my local town of Harlesden and every time I’d driven past in the evening it was pretty full, I thought I’d give it a go.It’s spacious, cool looking and quite elegant. We received a very nice greeting, and an even nicer one by the house white, a bottle of Fior de Maio. Pleasant, dry; ice cold and for twelve quid, a very good start. The menu is reassuringly small and as I normally head for a sea food starter, the king prawns with a side salad were a no brainer. Juicy, plump and just the right amount of garlic and hot oil. The bread, flown in frozen from Portugal was the perfect dunking partner for the delicious juices. The salad was crisp, fresh and drizzled with the wonderful oil and vinegar on the table was perfect. It’s the little things that make a simple salad great. My friend Zina chose the steak which was accompanied by an absolutely amazing vegetable cake from Madeira. A cabbage and garlic concoction which is cooked with oil and cornflour, cooled and then cut into chunks and fried. God I love new discoveries. I need to butter up the chef and watch him doing this – it’s bloody fantastic. The steak was almost veal like. I don’t know about Portuguese butchery but the meat was tender, soft and a joy to eat.The total bill was just over forty pounds. It’s not expensive, it’s not cheap, but t I’d rather pay a bit extra for quality ingredients any day of the week.Great food on one’s doorstep. Lovely service on one’s doorstep. Decent house wine on one’s doorstep. I should cocoa. I’ll be back. That’s for sure. mindingbellieswell.blogspot.com
