A popular local pub, recently refurbished. The kitchen is now open plan. A pub that serves good variety of food, busy at both lunch and at dinner. Booking is amust. Good beer garden and again gets very busy in all weathers at the weekend in particular.
Nice pub to visit before restaurants on The Green. Haven’t experienced the food but busy with diners.
I used to be a regular here & loved it, raving to anyone who’d listen. The place has a buzzy crowd, comfy sofas, open fires and high ceilings giving it a lovely vibe. Here it comes…BUT! The service has always been slow and over the last 2 years the quality of food has become unpredictable, ranging from fabulous to average. I last visited 2 weeks ago and will never return. I booked for a group of friends visiting from abroad, hoping for a chilled evening with good food & wine. The service was diabolically slow & nonchalant, the food was very average with tiny portions & prices had gone up a lot. But then came the worst service I’ve ever experienced in a restaurant. My friend ordered a black Irish coffee. It arrived with cream and we politely sent it back. Out of nowhere an idiot in a baseball cap stormed over to interrupt our conversation, demanding to know who had ordered the coffee. He then let loose an angry tirade about there being no such thing as a black Irish coffee and that it had taken him ages to float the cream properly on the returned drink. We were horrified and tried to complain but were told that the manager had gone home. Needless to say, no tip left! I’ll be eating at the Salisbury or the nearby Queen’s Head from now on where the food & staff are always lovely, even if the atmosphere isn’t so great.
